True, but you and i know these kind of people and this rings genuine. This is exactly how they virtue signal.
Good on her, but I live 2 hours from Canmore and 80% of the people there are darker than me. Most are Japanese...
Bring in the blacks from Calgary, you’ll have more “asian hate”.
Hopefully, they can get some funding for white single parents who can’t afford to take their children skiiing because of the cost too...because of “white privilege”
The lift tickets are expensive because of environmental rules etc.
I live in a mountainous tourist trap area of hiking, snowmobiling 4 wheeling (trucks, SUVs, ATVs, SUTs), boating, fishing, hunting, etc.
In 7 years of snowmobiling, I recall seeing only one Black guy on a snowmobile.
You may see a rare Back hiker.
I think I recall one or two on ATVs a few years ago.
About 45 minutes away is the Old Stone House Museum, a four story dormitory built of huge granite blocks by the first Black college graduate in the USA, Alexander Twilight to house the students of his boarding school.
I've never seen a Black person there.
People would be pointing and whispering just due to the novelty of a Black showing up at any of these places and activities.
It probably wouldn't be racism, just surprise.
I wish more successful folks of all races and backgrounds would get out and see what the country has to offer.
I call Bull Sheets! I do NOT believe this happened. I believe this is a made-up narrative on par with Jussie Smollett.

Totally... I was just in Canmore a couple of weeks ago and met lots of folks there. None of this sounds remotely plausible. Made up crap, it is.
I credit her for attempting to get more to leave the hood and get into nature, but pleeeze....
Banff is not racist because more dark skin people did not choose to leave the city to visit.
White privilege didn’t pay for white people to travel on shuttle buses from Calgary to visit Banff...
White people paid for it themselves...
That’s not “white privilege”!
What she wants is a free ride to Banff, free entry to the park and a free pass to anything she wants to visit.
I hope a grizzly gets a free lunch...
Hope you enjoyed your time in Alberta, if you are not an Albertan
Learn any Japanese while in Canmore? Or Jive?
I did have to check if it was the Babylon Bee.
Yep, that's what everyone thinks when they are wandering around out in the mountains surrounded by forests, mountains, and the beauty of nature.
This sounds like a constructed narrative by Kellman to support their project. In reality once you head out into the woods you are in a nature dominated space.
There is nothing wrong with encouraging everyone to enjoy the natural environment, but turning a walk in the woods into a critical race theory training session sounds like a good way to discourage anyone except liberal activists from enjoying their hike.
No [chuckle]
Another idiot racing to outdo his neighbor in being PC and oh-so-cool.
I thought it said “Darkies in the mountains.”
No. In many places seeing any other person is cause for surprise, and hopefully a pleasant interaction.
It seems like the hiker in the article is walking in areas where more people are present and seeing people of all skin colors is more common. So in their case seeing someone with "darker" skin is not much of a surprise.
I have met both Grant Fuhr and Fred Braithwaite in person.
Grant at a function...Fred not so much formally.
My family is from the Ottawa area, Fred lived downed the street, from my uncle’s sister. I was in the area for Christmas, so I travelled a few doors down to meet him. What a great guy. Our families had our planned dinners and afterwards we played some street hockey.
That’s how it is done here in Canada...
...this chick talking racism in the National Parks, because there aren’t enough black people...give me a break.
Nope, not from Alberta but had a great time while there. Been to Canmore quite a few times over the years although it’s been awhile. Weather was nice... good thing since if you wanted to eat in a restaurant, there was only outdoor seating.
Met a few Japanese tourists but not long enough to learn any language.....was there just for a couple of days.
From the article: "Kellman said it's not just discrimination or stereotypes that can be a barrier to enjoying the outdoors — cost is a factor too. She said some of the group who joined for the two ski days were single parents who said they may never have tried skiing if not given the opportunity..."
Blacks can't enjoy hiking or skiing because of racism?
I can see it if they have their own hangups thinking "I'm not supposed to like hiking or skiing because of the color of my skin" but if they do, that is their cross to bear, because nobody is stopping them from hiking or skiing.
The "outdoors is a thing for non-blacks" is the kind of thing that makes me wonder if the person saying it even hears the words coming out of their own mouth.
As for the excerpt above, there are a lot of single parents who might never try it due to the financial hurdles, and race isn't involved.
Yeah, I really want to hear rap “music” blasted while out thiking.
Just west of Calgary there is a barricade...guards on duty, to reduce the number of blacks frolicking the trails in the National parks
Being Black in Canada means sheep fisting salute ?
