The bid by (AZ) Gov. Doug Ducey to permanently cut $1.5 billion a year of state revenues is based on an economic theory and a set of numbers that may not hold up under closer examination.
And all that is worrying Arizona cities who stand to lose hundreds of millions of dollars if the governor is wrong.
Ahwatukee Democratic Sen. Sean Bowie warned that the impact of a massive tax cut and flat tax rate could defund police and public safety for cities.

If the police are going to stand bye and not help law abiding citizen, or worse protect BLM/Pantiesinawadfa, they deserve to be defunded.
Funny how it never affects the homeless shelter for bums, free lunches, lesbo outreach programs, free public housing, free needles for addicts, the worthless bureaucracy at city hall, the code inspectors, training and convention junkets all over the nation for countless city counselors, the mayor, police chiefs, etc etc.
No, the first thing affected is always the local police.
Police sbould be funded by the locality.
No sense sending your money to the state just so it can come back with strings attached.
Wouldn’t “they” think that’s a good thing?
Lol. As if the first thing that has to be cut when govt revenues fall is the police. Bureaucrats and politicians use this threat as a form of extortion against the public to keep the gravy train rolling in.
A rather dumb question.
If these politicians are so intent to defund police, they would allow criminals to run free. Having said this, why am I still paying for the jails on my Phoenix water bill?
Government in all forms needs to be cut to 10% of GDP or lower
"Some?" That would be the voices in their heads, right?
“...flat tax rate could defund police and public safety for cities.”
The cities will have to decide what’s more important if that happens. The way they did before federal (control by bribery/addiction) programs came along.
Every proposed cut of anything is met by horrified cries of how everyone will starve and die if the cut happens. And they always tell you the most important and scary things to lose will be cut.
I’m no fan of Ducey’s, I think he is a GOPe and weak. But this is typical Democrat play book. Whenever they don’t like something they push the fear of some group getting hurt: women and children hurt the most, schools will have to close, and now they’ll have to defund the police. If the proposal comes to pass there are options other than the fear mongering one, but Dems, when in charge will always do the one that hurts the people the most.
How about defunding social programs and welfare instead? Why doesn’t tax money benefit those who pay in?
Amazing how the taxes and defunding never defund librarians and the folks that change street lights.
Meanwhile, the bureaucrats get fancy furniture for their offices and meeting rooms, along with fancy artwork, all-expense trips (supposedly for meeting peers in other cities but always in tourist destinations), new vehicles, etc. The bureaucrats spend without caution.
theory .... warned .... could.
Such sentence structure is designed to support the successful terrorization of the USA as evidenced by the plannedemic, masks, "vaccines" that are not vaccines and the continuing campaign of fear.
Senator Bowie, MARXIST that you ARE if your a Democrat, I have NEWS for you. Instead of threatening the police who need your support why don’t you threaten too many ambidextrous pay check grabbers on the government payrolls, or too many people grabbing a government welfare check rather than getting up and going to work or any one of dozens of other give away programs all governments (fed, state, local) these days are famous for.
AS RR once said, “government is not going to fix any problem IT IS THE PROBLEM”.
You said a mouth full. There is so much else that could and should first be cut.
And the Fire Departments second.
