Years ago I heard a neighbor pontificating to another neighbor: “We should outlaw Fox News. And the guns. We need to take away everyone’s guns. And I think George Bush is corrupt. We need to look at his taxes until we find something. And another thing, I hate the idea of Christians brainwashing their kids into thinking gay people are perverts. We should take kids away from people like that.”
I walked over and expressed the view that some of these ideas might be unpopular and difficult to enforce.
She looked at me and said, “Oh, you’re a Republican! You just want to control everything! Like the Nazis!”
I said, “I’m a Conservative. I just want people to leave me alone. Seems like you’re the one who wants to control other people.”
She walked away.
Your neighbor sounds like a total whack job. The fact that she was touting massive violations of people’s fundamental rights, was oblivious to that fact, and projected her own totalitarian impulses onto Republicans, is a sign of some massive disconnect in her brain, a fundamental irrationality and lack of self-awareness. And now there are millions like her.
