Colleges are essentially an employment agency for leftist students. For those who are not so bright, they study ridiculous subjects which do not advance the student or society. Millions of people out there studying psychology, ethnic studies of some sort, art history, etc.
Just remember
Bill Maher only takes positions that benefit Bill Maher.
Hes all about self-interest.
Either he or someone he knows has been bitching about college and fees and covid restrictions because of how it affects them, through kids, etc
I would advise a kid of today to go to one of the trade schools. Learn to be a welder, electrician, HVAC tech, plumber or machinist. Do well in technical school, graduate and get a job that will pay you a six-figure income in a few years.
I long ago observed that if one is to get a degree in a useless area of study, it should be in philosophy. Then, one can create rational arguments as to why they are unemployed.
Or juicy rationalizations !
I have a friend that started as a deli clerk in grocery store chain. He is a store manager now and makes well over $150,000 a year. That chain, Kroger prefers to promote from within and his experience is not unusual.
Colleges, DC and Hollywierd are the only places left where people think Communism works.
Aren't you being disrespectful to blind pigs? They don't need to see acorns to find them. They find their food by sense of smell--which is incredibly fine--don't they?

Oops. Sorry!
Nutjob occasionally finds the truth.
It’s not a grift because they charge money. It’s a grift because they teach nothing of value, just indoctrinate people with pure BS and unicorn farts. I learned more commuting on the NY subways to and from work every day for years. Just take out a second-hand book and read. No pompous, overstuffed prig to listen to. No notes to take. Just study.
Twice this week oddly
Colleges didn’t always have a gatekeeper role allowing them to decide who gets a shot at a good job.
That power came as a result of Griggs vs Duke Power, a 1971 SCOTUS decision based on the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
“It concerned employment discrimination and the adverse impact theory, and was decided on March 8, 1971. It is generally considered the first case of its type.”
Basically Griggs v Duke made it impossible for corporations to use their own testing to decide who to hire.
Well they could still do it, but they would be endlessly defending themselves in court against charges of discrimination filed by the EEOC and other government civil rights agencies.
So instead of testing, corporations simply decided to let colleges do their screening for them, and they began requiring degrees for any job other than the menial.
The result has been a non-stop windfall for colleges. Bright people have spent enormous sums on college degrees which aren’t necessary.
All of this thanks to the downstream effect of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which a lot of current conservatives (stupidly) hail as a great victory for the GOP. Buckley, Goldwater and Reagan all opposed it, but what would they know compared to Sean Hannity?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griggs_v._Duke_Power_Co.
“This the reason Griggs v. Duke Power Co. Until that is re-litigated and a new USSC decision the “requirement” for a bs\ba when none is really needed will stand.”
Exactly. Griggs v Duke Power is where this all began.
Actually Griggs is a second order effect of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, but without Griggs companies would still feel free to use their own in house testing and judgement.
Yes, sometimes he’s spot on and that makes me sad.
Wow, what a stupid premise.
Yup! Like the boat’s gonna be in seaworthy condition after (then) 68 years at the bottom of the ocean. No prob! Captain Steubing will welcome everyone aboard.
And it was in one piece.
OTOH, that movie is now “Lawrence Of Arabia” compared to 99.9999% of what Hollywood releases these days...
