If they wanted to even come close to a valid point, they could point to weapons and militia being a response to the very significant indian/native american threat. The first 150 years or so of ‘white’ presence in North America was pretty dicey because of that very real threat.

If the good folks at THE GUARDIAN wanted to know the real reason, they could examine why all the SMART FOLKS left their geographical area some 350 years ago.

The thing I find most disturbing about all of these things (related to the Reagan quote of "The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." ) is that in their hearts, many of them do believe this BS.

The thing is, not all of them do.

I believe the upper echelons of Leftists (the steely-eyed ones interested only in power and domination) understand perfectly that statements like "America's gun obsession is rooted in slavery" are pure, unadulterated pap. These people simply find these absurdities quite useful.

But they are a smaller segment of the Left.

The larger portion of the Left which is composed of both the spittle-lipped ANTIFA cannon-fodder types and the intellectually weak and lazy liberals who cast their votes for Leftists because they don't vote, they emote, actually do believe this idiocy.

And that is unnerving.
