Origin of Covid — Following the Clues

[...]

The virus that caused the pandemic is known officially as SARS-CoV-2, but can be called SARS2 for short. As many people know, there are two main theories about its origin. One is that it jumped naturally from wildlife to people. The other is that the virus was under study in a lab, from which it escaped. It matters a great deal which is the case if we hope to prevent a second such occurrence. I’ll describe the two theories, explain why each is plausible, and then ask which provides the better explanation of the available facts. It’s important to note that so far there is no direct evidence for either theory. Each depends on a set of reasonable conjectures but so far lacks proof. So I have only clues, not conclusions, to offer. But those clues point in a specific direction. And having inferred that direction, I’m going to delineate some of the strands in this tangled skein of disaster.

I think the following is a good reason not to waste your time reading this:

Dr. Fauci is a longtime public servant who served with integrity under President Trump and has resumed leadership in the Biden Administration in handling the Covid epidemic. Congress, no doubt understandably, may have little appetite for hauling him over the coals for the apparent lapse of judgment in funding gain-of-function research in Wuhan.

Fauci did not serve with integrity, he served to pad his bank account with little concern about keeping people safe and healthy. So, there was no lapse in judgement either, it was just another way to further pad his bank account.

No seems to be about it, he is a bad apple, though I would use the term: MF'r.

Members of Fauci’s Covid-19 treatment panel have ties to Gilead Sciences, Inc. (Foster City, CA), the company that holds the patent for Remdesivir.

May 16, 2020 – In Phase 1 clinical trials conducted by Gilead Sciences in cooperation with China and Japan, Remdesivir FAILED: “no statistically clinical effect, with severe adverse reactions.”

June 29, 2020 – Dr. Fauci recommends a 1.6-billion-dollar purchase of Remdesivir despite the drug’s Phase 1 failure in China.

On October 16, 2020, the WHO concludes that Remdesivir is an ineffective drug and does not recommend its use to treat COVID-19.

This is and was an explosive piece when it was published, and it’s surprising that even after having been posted here three times, has so few comments.

The original thread from May 4 can be found here:

Just FYI.

The records of the Wuhan Institute of Virology certainly hold much relevant information. But Chinese authorities seem unlikely to release them given the substantial chance that they incriminate the regime in the creation of the pandemic.

The article was useful to me in light of my limited understanding of virology, microbiology etc.. And, as far as I'm concerned, it was sufficiently clear in casting a long shadow over careless/reckless scientists in search of Nobels/prestige without regard for the possible adverse outcomes of their research-- even in cases where it might be well intended.

The excerpt I posted is a condemnation of a regime without regard for anything but themselves and the strongest possible indication of their danger to the world.

Thanks for the post and the link to the original thread. I missed it before, and it’s well worth the time it took me to read it.

This is the piece, along with Fillipa Lenzo’s piece in the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (of all places) that really broke the dam wide open in terms of reporting the lab-leak hypothesis.

Nothing had changed, really, and plenty of posters here on FR, myself included, thought it likely that the Wuhan lab was the real source of the original outbreak.

That said, one has to question why this is suddenly breaking now, when it’s been kind of obvious for months that a lab leak was probably the most likely source. And why in a far-left outlet like the BAS? This was followed up a week ago by Vanity Fair (!), which now has Fauci well and truly on the hot seat. The original plan seemed to be to simply throw him under the bus, and hope the media would move on.

That hasn’t happened yet for some reason, so one is left wondering how the media and the Democrat machine and the ruling Junta plan on spinning this. Chris Wallace tried blaming Trump, and that went over like a lead balloon, so maybe it’s just hard to come up with a new narrative.

Well, it is an agonizingly slow process for information of this nature to penetrate a critical mass of the public that could do something with it. Same goes for election fraud... Thankfully Paul, Blackburn, Rubio, Cotton etc. are pounding hard on Fauci. Also, the prospect of forcefully confronting the PRC is terrifying to many.

Possible outcomes of this investigation have the potential to shake the world even more. I understand the debate raging over the vaccines; but this stuff, election fraud and PRC pandemic responsibility, can also be explosive. The media may be stumbling around like a stunned duck. Who knows?...Eventually some lights may go on and wake up some people.
