California could “do” more hydro if Newsome got off his lazy ass and allow the construction of dams which create reservoirs which creates hydrostatic pressure to spin turbine blades to create electricity. This is not complicated.
As for nukes, there should be dozens of mini-nukes all across the country. They come in real handy running desalination plants.

The Natrium reactors are a great design. They use up nearly all the energy contained in Uranium and burns out the long lasting waste with neutron flux. They also can cool down thru natural circulation. You don’t need pumps working if you have some kind of issue.
