Loeffler meets with McConnell amid speculation of another Senate run
The Hill ^ | 06/16/21 04:47 PM EDT | BY MYCHAEL SCHNELL

Former Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) met with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Wednesday amid speculation that she could mount another bid against Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) next year.

The meeting, first reported by CNN and confirmed to The Hill by a person familiar, comes after Loeffler in February said a 2022 bid against Warnock is “certainly on the table.”

Loeffler was ousted from her Senate seat in January of this year after Warnock won a runoff race by a narrow two points. She served in the Senate for slightly more than a year, after replacing former Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) in late 2019.

Warnock is on the ballot again in 2022, where he will vie for a full six-year term.

Asked by CNN on Wednesday about another Senate run, Loeffler said, “I haven’t ruled it out.”

When asked why she was meeting with McConnell, she told the network, “I’m updating the leader on the situation in Georgia.”

Eyes are on Loeffler to see if she ultimately decides to take on Warnock, especially after two top-tier potential candidates, former Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) and former Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), ruled out launching their own bids.

The most prominent GOP challenger currently in the race is Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black (R), who launched his candidacy earlier this month.

Military veterans Kelvin King and Latham Saddler are also running in the Republican primary.

Former President Trump, however, is pushing his own candidate to jump into the race: retired NFL star Herschel Walker.

In March, Trump in a statement said it would be "fantastic" if Walker ran for Senate in Georgia.

“He would be unstoppable,” Trump wrote, adding “He is also a GREAT person. Run, Herschel, run!”

Republicans are especially enthusiastic about taking down Warnock after they lost control of the upper chamber in January following two special elections in the Peach State.

Always thought she was hopeless. Now she wants to run again. McConnell is easily bought off so he will support her. Sigh.

Loeffler is a stone cold loser the exact opposite of who Republicans should be nominating....

Republicans went with Martha McSally in Arizona and she lost twice, although that result might be in question, but Loeffler is bad news...we need a Marjorie Taylor Green with a little more tact.....

Same thing with the appointed disappointment in AZ.

Let’s run the same lousy losing candidates again........

To Mitch, that’s better than a conservative getting elected.

Loeffler is Mitch’s ideal candidate. She is weak, ineffective, and a fake barely Republican. Have heard Walker many times and he might be a great candidate. With Vernon Jones running for Governor and Walker for Senator, could potentially be a game changing slate of candidates for Georgia because if the Commie-Rat’s don’t have cheating plus 95+% of blacks, they cannot win.

I’m guessing you’re right. He’s been SOLID and, equally important, CONSISTENT.

Agree. I predicted she would lose. I took some heat on here for it. The voters do not like seats being bought they would rather have a leftist than her. Says it all

Because she was up for election not long after her appointment she mostly supported Trump… although not enthusiastically. The real killer is how quickly she surrendered after the fake ballots were counted. She’s NOT A FIGHTER!

A perfect fit for the GOP. Fighters and winners need not apply.

We need a new party. I mean a real party that actually stands for something because the GOP is NEVER going to fight for conservative principles and values. Never.
