California’ Marin County is seeing the return of the NIMBYs
American Thinker ^ | 06/24/2021 | Andrea Widburg

In November 2020, over 80% of Marin County, California, residents voted for Joe Biden. This was to be expected. In 2018, 64% of Marin’s residents voted for Gavin Newsom. Only 12% voted for John Cox, the Republican candidate. Another 8% of votes went to yet another Democrat. Now that Marinites have gotten their solid Democrat governance, though, they’re not happy with one of the main Democrat goals: Turning expensive suburbs into densely populated urban areas. Welcome to the new NIMBYs (“Not in my back yard”).

Marin County is one of the wealthiest areas in America, coming in at number 13 according to a 2016 American Community Survey. In 2016, the median Marin household income was $103,845. Marin might be doing even better now because it weathered the COVID lockdowns very well. This is probably because Marin’s wealth comes, in significant part, from people who can make deals sitting at their computers.

One of Marin’s great charms for the wealthy is the abundance of open space. If you live in the right parts of Marin, you get Bay views, San Francisco views, Golden Gate Bridge views, Richmond-San Rafael Bridge views, and multiple mountain views. There are wonderful hiking trails within easy driving distance, whether one wants to climb Mt. Tamalpais or Ring Mountain, hike down to the Pacific, or wander through the ancient redwoods in Muir Woods.

Crime in Marin is low, schools are good, and – and this is very important – the place has a friendly, small-town feel. If you raise children there, it’s virtually guaranteed that, wherever you go, you’ll run into someone from your neighborhood or your school. Despite the hard-left politics, Marin is a community with a Leave it to Beaver feel to it.

So typical of wealthy suburban lefties - vote left b/c it doesn’t affect YOUR wealthy community - they think they are above it all. Reminds me of voters in Vermont.

At least Trump isn’t tweeting mean things, right?

As much as I like hiking in Marin County - they deserve a hefty dose of urban reality, as in Section 8 housing placed in their midst. Let these hypocrites live with what they vote for.

You’ll find no sympathy from me.

“In a unanimous vote on Wednesday, the City Council joined Sausalito and Corte Madera in directing staff to appeal the Association of Bay Area Governments’ regional housing methodology. It would require the city to add 979 residences by 2031.

Of the cities and towns that have appealed so far, Larkspur is tasked with adding the most residences. Under the regional housing allocation formula, Mill Valley would have to add 865; Corte Madera, 725; and Sausalito, 724.”

I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around this. Some government agency tells a city they have to build more houses? I’ve never even heard of this.

These idiot lefties are also discovering the return of a feature of these ‘infill” suburban development details controlled by the fedgov. Details which Trump proudly removed— being the requirement for the construction of Section 8 public housing within each new development or infill projects— thereby creating relocated populations of the urban scum dwellers being moved out into the suburbs. The very place the people moving there was to get away from the public housing criminal gangs and ancillary crime/encounters/murders etc.

This was Obamauamao the First’s great accomplishment. Now being continued by JoeBama. Notably— Joseph Calabria was removed from his HUD position yesterday (a Trump loyalist who was eliminating these add on scumdominiums inserted into the nice new neighborhoods which were forced there previously to “insure diversity” of the neighborhoods!).

Yeah. One thing I think is interesting is that the author just glides right over that like it's the most natural thing in the world for some bureaucrat to be dictating how many residences must be buit.

Given the steep landscape. I can’t imagine where they will shoehorn in these residents without compromising surrounding earth they will have to demolish existing structures.

Details which Trump proudly removed

Trump said "I saved the suburbs" when he enacted this - and the media called him every name for bigot, racist and xenophobe.

But then they called him this every day, 24/7 for four years straight.

I fully support building section 8 on every block in Marin County. And I fully support an ordinance making walls illegal

Hopefully they build offshore windmills in the bay surrounding Marin and they can choke on their climate change virtue with them. Hypocrites

The new homes will be block homes like in east germany or england. No separate homes.

Precisely. The moron commie left wants to eliminate suburbs of any kind— where people have increased their wealth/worth. The y are doing this by depreciating the properties by federally requiring high/short rise SEction 8 housing be built into EXISTING developed suburbs... Cut out 10 or 12 contiguous homes and land, then built the Section 8 right in the middle, and bring in the druggie urban scum, reprobates, whores, pimps, the people moved to suburbs to get. away. from.... in the first place.

This is OBAMAUMAO the First and JoeBama-— the puppet for him.
This HAS TO BE STOPPED. People dream of getting a place of their own— get it, and do not intend to have to deal with the shiteholes they left.

Obama’s goal was/is to destroy the suburbs and dilute their votes.

I have some cousins that grew up in Corte Madera back in the 60’s and 70’s. Awesome place to raise kids back then.
