The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Friday that the universal face coverings mandate will be lifted statewide on Monday at 12:01 a.m. — ending a requirement that lasted 439 days.
Gov. Tom Wolf’s goal of having 70% of Pennsylvanians fully vaccinated by the time the mandate ends didn’t go exactly as planned, with the numbers falling just short of the mark.
As of Friday morning, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention vaccine tracker, 74.9% of Pennsylvanians age 18 and older have received a first dose and 59.4% are fully vaccinated.
The dramatic rise and subsequent fall in demand for masks can be tracked by business shifts at places like Gerbe’s Glass in Lawrenceville.
Bernadette Gerbe, the owner of Gerbe’s Glass, was one of many small business operators to switch over to mask making at the beginning of the pandemic. She recalls seeing people without face coverings walking along Butler Street from her window side workspace in the early months of the pandemic when masks were hard to come by. She began making and handing out homemade masks to Doordashers and pedestrians for free.
“What I decided to do was move out my glass-making equipment and move in my sewing machines, which I had to clear a good bit of dust off,” Ms. Gerbe said. It wasn’t a money-making venture, but she felt a need to give back to her community and she wanted to stay busy.
After being featured in a Post-Gazette article, requests for her masks skyrocketed. She continued to give them out for almost three months during the height of the pandemic.
Now, she’s excited to get back in business — with or without masks, whichever her customers prefer.

Didn’t even know they ever had a mask mandate here in PA.
Where were you? I am in Chester County and just about every store had signs saying “Face Coverings Required”, for a whole year.

All the stores did that here too, I still never ever wore one. There’s no mandate for me, I don’t listen to commies.
I carried a mask around and used it in any business establishment that required one. I probably used it 2-3 times per week at most.
There’s nothing more “commie” than pretending you can ignore the rules that are set by the owner of a business establishment.
In Indiana county, where I am, the stores I shop in, except one, didn’t enforce the mandate. I have seen very very few masks for at least the last month. Most people here are not living in fear.
Who are following false orders from commies, so yes I can, and I did. My face has not been covered. It’s also far too handsome for that anyways.
I’m also in Chester County, and they were everywhere.
Lots of places northwest of Allentown didn’t have requirements when I went up there the last couple months.
In Westmoreland County we’ve been freed from the Mazi’s for a while.

I’m an infantry vet with common sense, I don’t listen to commies. Period. Most businesses I go into don’t give me any grief whatsoever. I cancelled my Costco membership already.
I never said I owned anyone’s property, I just don’t live my life based on lies told to me by commies, not to mention many business owners put up signs because they were made to, and didn’t agree, so one could do what they liked.

Over the last 15 months I've gone out of my way to patronize businesses that refused to follow any stupid government orders related COVID or any other public hysteria.

Well that’s decent, I did the same thing. I just don’t let non elected health nuts decide what’s best, especially when they are lying and basing their decisions off of lies and covering for the real reasons and also imposing things on people they know are harmful and don’t work anyways. By their very definition of their jobs if they don’t know that, then they have no business being there. One has to assume they do know and try to do it to us anyways, that makes them evil.
At least the gun stores didn’t play along at all. One shop in Dawson had a bunch of peace officers in one day, the same day a buddy and I went. They were harassing people and trying to hand out tickets. We dealt with them and sent them on their way. I didn’t serve overseas etc and lose friends to just sit around and watch some jack booted nazis try to impose their bs.

That’s late. Roy Cooper, Democratic Governor ended the mask mandate around 5-15.
