'I never said I hated the country': Olympian Gwen Berry says she should still compete for Team USA amid calls for her to be removed but doubles down on her criticism of 'disrespectful' Star-Spangled Banner

Team USA Olympian Gwen Berry says she is not anti-American and insists she should still compete in the Tokyo 2021 games after turning away from the American flag during the national anthem.

Speaking to the Black News Channel about the backlash the gesture received, Berry said Tuesday: 'I never said that I didn't want to go to the Olympic games, that's why I competed and got third and made the team.'

Berry, who is sponsored by the leftist defund-the-police advocate group Color of Change, added: 'I never said that I hated the country. I never said that. All I said was I respect my people enough to not stand for or acknowledge something that disrespects them. I love my people. Point blank, period.'

She could move to Canada and compete for their Olympic team.

My mind cannot process the complete disconnect this woman has from reality. Who dresses her in the morning?

Somewhere in the world there must be at least one Marxist hell hole that would love to sponsor her.

Berry should be banned from Olympics if she has taken money from the defund police group or a promise of future money, as violation of Olympics rules, not because of what she did.

Okay so maybe she’s saying its a matter of perception, here

Maybe I have a perception issue with her, too

Maybe let’s refer to her as the Second Loser for the rest of her life.

Because see, it’s a matter of perception, and we got what she was doing all wrong

So I think, perhaps maybe SHE also got wrong something she did

And that really its more thats she’s a Second Loser, rather than a Bronze medal winner

I am preparing myself for the letdown. I expect the Olympics to be way too chicken to take a stand and kick this hateful fool off the Olympic Team as they should do.

I sure wonder who her sponsors are?
That would be the best way to bring her back to earth.
Pop a few of her most lucrative financial partnerships.
Though it’s difficult to imagine her inspiring anyone to do anything positive. Maybe she’s selling to other America Hatrers. She is living down to the stereotype that black people can’t control themselves or think of the big picture. The quintisential angry black woman, writ large!

You claim you want to show respect to “Your People”. Are you an American, or what are you?

I ask again: If you are not American, what are you?

Go represent whomever you like if you do not want to show respect and honor to the PEOPLE that respect and honor the flag you just insulted. They have paid a LOT of money to get you where you are, ungrateful though you may be.

Use the few braincells you have remaining to actually THINK about what you have said.

Be glad your mama ain’t mine. You’d be in for such an ass whuppin’, you’d never believe! And we’re not even Americans!!

As to the Olympics, “her people” are Americans of every race, color, creed, ethnicity, religion etc. If she is on the US Olympic team, she needs to respect the flag. Else she should lobby for the creation of a US BLM Olympic team, and compete in the worldwide BLM games.

The two-time Olympian - who turned 32 on Tuesday - explained that she takes offense to the third line of the Star-Spangled Banner, which references slavery.

Berry said: 'If you know your history, you know the full song of the National Anthem, the third paragraph speaks to slaves in America, our blood being slain...all over the floor. It's disrespectful and it does not speak for black Americans. It's obvious. There's no question.'

Color me confused.

The third LINE says, "What so proudly we hailed".

And the third PARAGRAPH says,
"And the rockets' red glare
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there."

I'm probably too dense to see it, but where are slaves mentioned?

Maybe means third VERSE

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

If you hate our national anthem, or the Pledge of Allegiance, then you are lying about hating our country, because that’s what they represent.

Do you hate your family because they’ve said and done some really bad rhings? Or do you forgive them as they make efforts to change their errors, and continue to love them?

Rule 50 —a ban on political demonstrations at the Olympics...though
these things (raising a fist, kneeling)
were allowed in trials competition

From article linked above
“So we actually were successful at the U.S. level. The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee has decided that it is now permissible for United States athletes at the Olympic trials and USA to have peaceful protests,” Quigley said. “That was a huge win for us. Now we are looking to do that at the Olympic level as well.”

This past year, the IOC sent out a survey to athletes around the world with the following results: A majority at 70% said it is not appropriate to demonstrate on the field of play and at official ceremonies. While 67% said it was not appropriate on the podium.

Just a couple weeks ago, the IOC decided Rule 50 will be upheld.

“This finding actually has some backlash now amongst the greater athlete and human rights community to say, actually, this law is now antiquated and should be looked at further, because athletes should indeed have a platform to demonstrate some of the issues that they have,” Siner said.

International organizations are already speaking out against Rule 50.

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport and the European elite athletes’ body are among them.

I think she means the third stanza, where there is a line that says:

“No refuge could save the hireling and slave”

Look up “Color of Change” organization. You’ll see their neo-Marxist ideology for yourself.

I thought that the ‘hirelings’ were German mercenaries; and the ‘slaves’ were Colonists, who were impressed into the British navy.
