Donald Rumsfeld, the two-time defense secretary best known for serving in that position at the height of the Iraq War, has died. He was 88.

RIP
“We have knowns and we have known unknowns. But, we also have unknown unknowns.”
Don Rumsfield
My first thought was “Rummy chick.”
Sad day.
Time flies. I remember he did not have a chair in his office at the Pentagon.
RIP. I can’t say much good about the administration in which he served, but he was effective in his role. The media hated him much like they hate Trump, though with less intensity, obviously.

I don’t know if the problem was Rumsfeld, or the master he served.
R.I.P. Mr. Secretary. My favorite Rumsfeld quote:
Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know. And if one looks throughout the history of our country and other free countries, it is the latter category that tends to be the difficult ones.
The above drove the MSM crazy.
Rumsfeld was a good man... He never thought the military was a social welfare experiment like the nutcases like we have today...
And in a million years Rumsfeld would never talk about turning weapons on American citizens OR purge patriots from the ranks.
We were blessed and didn’t know it...
I’ll never forgive the Bush administration for their policy of putting our military members into tour of duty after tour of duty after tour of duty, rather than draft or recruit enough military to truly get the job done right.
I have friends with PTSD thanks to this, and one committed suicide due to it.
I did not know this..
Economist Milton Friedman later noted that he, Friedman, regarded Reagan’s pick of Bush as “the worst decision not only of his campaign but of his presidency”, and that Rumsfeld was instead his preference. “Had he been chosen,” Friedman said, “I believe he would have succeeded Reagan as president and the sorry Bush-Clinton period would never have occurred.”[52]
Stop Loss was devastating, if you cant call on a draft to get more bodies due to the politics, perhaps it is a sign maybe this war is a bad idea.
I detested the Bush foreign interventions. But I did admire Rumsfeld’s effectiveness in ignoring the Press and sticking at his job in spite of all the attempts by the liberals to take him down.
My neighbor served there and just committed suicide about 3 weeks ago. His mother said she’d known it would happen for 20 years.
MSN’s headline read “controversial Donald Rumsfeld dead at 88”.
Jerks.
Iraq was complicated. I truly believe that we were on a collision path with Saddam. Suppose Saddam actually hangs on and one of his sons take over, I believe it is only a matter of time before we intervene. His sons are savages, especially Uday if he became the Dictator of Iraq today.
I recall seeing Rumsfeld talk about realigning our military forces to better be positioned to deal with likely threats from the Pacific. Shortly thereafter, 9/11 happened and the War On Terror was off and running. The realignment that Rumsfeld mentioned was never spoken of again.
Agreed. I no longer recognize our military today.
