It’s shows they are not willing to appease shoplifters and the politicians who promote crime.

Too many undocumented shoppers?

Mostly lawful sales transactions?

Well, with so many cities raising the monetary limit on what is considered a prosecutable case, I believe in Dallas it’s $750 and LA even higher, it doesn’t matter who’s stealing.

Loss prevention folks aren’t allowed to do anything, if the person is t cooperative.

Lowe’s has a store on Moreland Age, in Atlanta. It gets taken to the cleaners. Cashiers robbed at gun point. Folks just walking out with product.

And that Lowe’s is in the same shopping center as a Target. That Target sustains some of the most amount of theft of any Target in the country.

Years ago, my younger brother was manager of the tool section of a Home Depot in the Dallas area. He was 'called on the carpet' and told that he was catching to many thieves.
It was explained that studies had been done and the amount of theft was known and the price of that theft was already included in price of the items on the shelf and HD wasn't losing anything.

Stop catching thieves.

He quit.

Yup—”hyperurban” in Japan means clean cities, safe streets, excellent schools...the reporter would be shocked at the difference in that very racist society.

This is a very long winding article, jam packed with human interest stories, but not once is a high level of shop lifting mentioned. Stealing, plus local area BLM protests probably made many of these stores unsafe places to work or shop.

The elephant in the vacant parking lots must be named and discussed. And I dont mean trying to rationalize stealing due to presumed racism.

"Feds should just open “free stuff” warehouses. /s"

They essentially have in many big, inner cities where Antifa and BLM can riot, loot and burn without any fear of prosecution or they get arrested and promptly released. The no bail travesty also contributes greatly to this with a revolving, no penalty, door for career criminals. I even recall one activist some time ago in Chicago saying that the looting was justified and just a small part of the reparations they were due.

Shouldn’t the New York Times have a storefront-level satellite reporting office in these locations?

With glass windows showing off all the great office supplies and computers and copiers?

Aren’t they creating a News Desert by not locating there?

That’s a great new phrase - “Hyper Urban” area. I’m gonna start using it.

“Or...what happens when you raise and subsidize an entire generation of illiterate, incapable, fatherless morons.”

When I managed a Garden Center in ‘The People’s Republic of Madistan’ we had this HUGE black woman who would come into the store and starting at the front door, would work her way through the entire place while shouting, ‘Why ain’t I seeing any peoples of color workin’ here?!?!’

We hired TONS of black and hispanic kids as we were on the edge of ‘the hood.’ They’d ‘work’ for a few days, then that would be the last you’d see of them. In my 10 years there, I remember exactly ONE minority kid that stayed with us for a number of years. Good home, Eagle Scout, saving for college, had a DAD, etc.

She’d come in and do this every few weeks. She was also a HUGE shoplifter - just LOVED our selection of candles, LOL!

We finally caught her shoplifting red-handed, called the police and they arrested her.

Problem solved. :)

Would LOVE to see their inventory shrink data by store/neighborhood. Unfortunately, neither Target nor the fake news would EVER allow such data to made public.

Poor innocent kids simply "caught up" in the melee.

If the melee comin' yo' way, you might get caught up in it.

Gonna bet shoplifting was a doozy
That’s what shut down a market in our mixed area neighborhood

This is agitprop.

The Target stores referenced in the article were closed in 2016 (Flint), 2018 (Mondawmin) and 2019 (Chicago).

Why write this story now if not to inflame and incite?

When the store closed, it was like saying, ‘You are not worthy after all. we thought we could weather the continued loss of revenue, the constant shoplifting, the vandalism, the parking lot muggings, the threats to our employees...but the community's total denial of these conditions was just much to bear.’”

I strongly support you in bringing this fact out. It is a large part of the destruction of any hope for black children to have good lives, as the two parent family and religion were a bulwark of stability in years gone by.

However, here are other statistics (who knows what is accurate?)——
Google basic search:
What percentage of black births are to unwed mothers?
In 2011, it was reported that 72% of black babies were born to unmarried mothers. As of 2015, at 77.3 percent, black Americans have the highest rate of non-marital births among native Americans.

Wikipedia (Af.Am.Fam.Structure)
....When Moynihan wrote in 1965 on the coming destruction of the black family, the out-of-wedlock birth rate was 25% among blacks. In 1991, 68% and 2011, 83% of black babies were born to unmarried mothers.

....The rate of African American marriage is consistently lower than White Americans, and is declining.[61] These trends are so pervasive that families who are married are considered a minority family structure for blacks.[61] In 1970, 64% of adult African Americans were married. This rate was cut in half by 2004, when it was 32%.[61] Conversely, in 2004, 45% of African Americans had never been married compared to only 25% of White Americans.[61]

While research has shown that marriage rates have dropped for African Americans, the birth rate has not. Thus, the number of single-parent homes has risen dramatically for black women.

Social behavior, criminality (Lack of), cleanliness, organization, and structure still bring in business.

One day, and I won’t hold my breath, most cultures will “get it”.

The store was there from 2008 to 2018 and it did not get better. If anything it got worse. Target learned an expensive lesson but decided to stop the bleeding and took off.
