Afghan troops have been filmed laying down their arms to the Taliban as the terror group shows off the American-made weapons it has seized after US and Nato troops beat a hasty retreat.

The US left Bagram Airfield last week - its fortress in the country for nearly 20 years - by slipping away in the night without telling the base's new Afghan commander who discovered they had gone the next morning.

However, General Austin Scott Miller, commander of US and Nato troops in Afghanistan, said he was shocked by how quickly the Afghan National Army had surrendered to the Taliban.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry. How much treasure was flushed down the toilet on the armpit of a country? Looks like almost 20 years of US occupation did not make Afghans into Western "freedom" loving people.

I was taught that it take two generations to teach new values to a culture. And that time frame starts AFTER the fighting stops.

Another neocon foreign policy tragedy.

The general that was shocked, obviously wasn’t paying any attention

When planning long-term adventures you must always factor in the fact, your boys may not be running things the whole time.

The Afghan army surrender would have even occurred if the withdrawal had happened under Trump. The “Stans” were never fixable.

After seeing what happened to the "Iraqi troops" when Obozo bugged out of the country, who can blame them? Fleeing the country is probably better than surrendering. Iraq was never a country. It was an artificial creation of the victors after World War I.

While such countries can be held together with reasonably competent leadership (see Bush II & Trump or even Yugoslavia under Tito), all bets are off when morons take control.

Afghanistan was even less of a country than Iraq.

Which is why "nation building" among nations that don't want to be built or, much less, were never nations to begin with, is a waste of American blood and treasure. Lesson: If necessary, topple or punish the regime, but leave the nation building to someone else.

At least the South Vietnamese fought for a couple of years after the US left. Will the leaders finally realize the immortal words of Rush Limbaugh: “The job of the military is to kill people and break things,” the military cannot and never was intended to nation-build.

But you know damn well we would have either evacuated the equipment or destroyed it.

What happened in Afghanistan is an impeachable offense. This is on the Commander In Chief!

The Taliban will take Kabul. No doubt about it. And every Afghani soldier knows that. So deserting now would actually be a smart move.

In some respects this is playing out like Vietnam did. But RVN soldiers weren’t slaughtered after the surrender. Instead they were “reeducated”.

This won’t happen in Afghanistan. There will probably be a massive slaughter. So desert now, and maybe save yourself from an execution later.

And our wonderful politicians will tell us all of our dead troops did it to protect us! What a tragic farce. They died for NOTHING!

In some respects this is playing out like Vietnam did.

Now comes the "Cambodia".

Can we learn from this?

You know, so next generations don’t have to die in these failures?
