After many years of fighting for their right to profit off their name, image and likeness, the way has now been cleared for college athletes to begin a new era of NIL deals and endorsements. According to a report by Front Office Sports, a rising Tennessee State point guard, who will begin playing for the Tigers this fall, already has a lucrative endorsement already in his back pocket.

Hercy Miller, the son of rapper and former NBA player Master P, has signed a $2 million deal to become a brand ambassador for Web Apps America, a tech company specializing in web, mobile and software solutions. Miller's endorsement deal ties into the company's commitment to supporting HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) in the United States.

Not an NBA farm team. Hercy is not likely NBA bound. Not a major college talent. Not a major college basketball school.

I don’t care. But I do not think that scholarships should go to athletes anymore.

All these new laws and rules that allow college athletes to cash in on the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), are going to end any pretense of college sports...

Right now it’s the wild, wild, west and without some type of rules or guidelines it will basically ruin college athletics....

Correct. The practice should be banned. They turn their back on America and do immoral things. Give scholarships to brainy high-achievers.

It’s Capitalism at its finest what’s there to be worried about. Here in this great country we encourage the young to earn, make as much money as you can as a way to get ahead, to create a better life. Grab as much as you can is my advice and yes, college athletes should be able to monetize their likeness and control the use of their image.

I think scholarships should only go to U.S.A. citizens, but that's my opinion. Unfortunately, illegal aliens (and other non-citizens) get priority from Democrats.

There are colleges that pay players, NCAA will not investigate. College kids that never worked at McDonalds driving expensive cars. Colleges running no class, No work scams. What of this is worth saving?

True that does exist, but it’s a small minority of players that get treated that way probably less than 10% but they are the highest profile athletes...

My University has over 600 athletes on scholarship I bet no more than 60 if that are were getting paid under the table, and my university has multiple national championships in football and basketball...

The type of thing you describe does happen but not nearly as often as you seem to think...

“Miller’s endorsement deal ties into the company’s commitment to supporting HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) in the United States.”

What a non sequitur, unless the university gets a cut of the kid’s cash.

Paying college athletes is making whores out of them.
College sports have always been played by amateurs, even though some have been rewarded with scholarships that give them a free education.
Keep the amateur status and play for the school of your choice.
This deal stinks of BLM’s call for reparations!
I will soon stop watching any college sports.
Basketball and Football are dead. All women’s sports are dead. This leaves only a few to enjoy. But, I won’t watch the whores.

Our nation sinks to no class status.

Long live the amateur spirit.
