House Republicans ‘deeply concerned’ about US Olympic athletes protesting

More than three dozen Republican House members have penned a letter to the US Olympic Committee to express their concerns about American athletes holding political protests at the Summer Games in Tokyo — singling out hammer thrower Gwen Berry, who turned away as the national anthem was played during the national trials last month.

The 39 Republicans wrote to US Olympic and Paralympic Committee Chair Susanne Lyons and CEO Sarah Hirshland, urging them to comply with Rule 50 of the International Olympic Committee’s charter that prohibits political expression by athletes, Fox News reported on Thursday.

“We are deeply concerned by the growing trend of American athletes taking advantage of the international platform afforded by the Olympic games to perpetuate divisive, hateful and anti-American ideologies,” the letter signed by the 39 Republicans said.

US athletes are there representing the US. If they have any issue with that, please do not go. Let someone else go instead.

Maybe the Olympic committee should call the Hollywood Awards committee and how viewership is doing over there. Cause I'm damn sure not watching the 'Olympics' this season...And there's millions like me now and in the near future.

F the Olympics, and all woke sports and entertainment.

Let these people do what they want. They’re going to anyway, and there’s nothing practical that can be done to stop them. Let them make idiots out of themselves.

Turn them all off. Move on with your life. Devote your time and energy to something worthwhile.

They WANT you to complain, so they can say, “Look, the other side is angry. Isn’t that great?”

Just turn it all off. Football, basketball, baseball. College and pro. Olympics. Do something with your life instead of watching others do it.

For whatever it's worth ...

The United States is one of the only countries with an Olympic Committee that is not supported through federal government support. Instead, the U.S. Olympic Committee relies on private funding. The Team USA Fund helps underwrite expenses for Olympic athletes, coaches, and more.

https://www.investopedia.com/news/how-athletes-get-funding-olympics/#:~:text=The%20United%20States%20is%20one%20of%20the%20only,underwrite%20expenses%20for%20Olympic%20athletes%2C%20coaches%2C%20and%20more.

They can burn the U.S. flag -- and set themselves on fire in the process -- for all I care.

These athletes don't represent the U.S. They represent the corporate sponsors who pay their bills.

Ten bucks says frank luntz told them he did a focus group and that this would be red meat for the base. What loser idiots. Meanwhile the left is dismantling the country.

So humiliating being a Republican.

If it were up to me, I’d have worded the letter more sternly.

Even though they are all millionaires, they still have a burning need to protest America.

For context, please note in fairness that they scrimmage with male teams to up their game. This is smart. They famously lost 5-2 to a Dallas team of 14-year-old boys, and are said generally to avoid contests where the male team is over 13.

They might be better at political science than they are at soccer. But I doubt it.

The Republicans have finally been awakened enough to send a strongly worded letter. They find this troubling!!!

They write a lot of bills that won’t pass, then fundraise off them.

Wow, out of 211 Republican Congress men and women only 39 are capable of signing a letter, the rest ae brain dead.

Per the GOP.GOV site “House Republicans are united by a desire to make America a better place, a nation where we are not defined by our limits, but by our potential.” What a fricking joke!

Shows what a terrible leader Kevin McCarthy is and that 172 incumbents need to be removed.

How about this? Any athlete making a show of protest in the Olympics automatically loses their passports. Sneak over the southern border for reentry via illegal methods. America is so bad then stay the hell out.
