Interesting, I had not seen this story on the Chinese assistants.
It’s been common in art through the years that a master artist will block things out and then assistants fill it in. Rubens worked like this in the 17th century. There is still the unity of vision of a master artist behind the work.
But it is usually better when the brushwork of the master can be discerned instead of his assistants. Thus the different designations of “studio of Rubens” or “Rubens” himself.
I don’t know enough of this Obama artist to discern quality. I actually like this portrait because it is different from the usual stuffily-posed official portraits. Again, the idea of “green” overtaking Obama seems to be unintentional but it is dominant to my eyes and quite apt.
The bigger picture is that his father was selling influence as Hunter’s business, and his father’s party faked an impeachment to keep them both from being prosecuted. The bigger picture is that regardless of the paintings, prosecution is long overdue.
Paintings are just the latest move in an ongoing game of Bag Man for Daddy.
