We’d have to have strict controls on movement too to ensure the leftists didn’t try to “sneak” back in to the successful conservative area.
Inertia is also a problem. Maybe people will come together either nationally or regionally in a crisis, but until then they aren't getting off their couches.
“de-urbanization” is happening right now in many major cities.
I would prefer that the red plains and mountain states strike off on their own rather than hitch their wagon to Confederacy v2.0. Don't worry about us, we'll be fine.
You’ve hinted upon a major problem with the “secession” movement.
How do you stop the civilization cycle?? What happens when the success and growth turns into laziness and apathy? What happens when the apathy turns into decay? What happens when you reach end game again?
I’m starting to think that Western peoples just aren’t cut out to sustain civilizations long-term. They lack the self-discipline to last 5,000 years like Japan or China.

I don't think so, but because the South has a first world economy it won't secede. Big corporations aren't that different from region to region or even from country to country, and they think of themselves as leading change, not bowing to the ideas of non-elites.
Free Republic is way behind. A LOT of “NORMAL” people in the USA is talking about a peaceful separation and secession as a way out of this mess. Only here is it a radical idea.
