This is a UK study of young suicides published 2017/8 for data a year or two before that. The suicide numbers look similar to what is quoted above.

One interesting thing is a common suicide cause in children is bereavement. A family member dies and the child can’t endure it.

Covid may cause child suicides in that manner. A grandparent, perhaps.

45 years ago the younger brother of a dear friend of mine committed suicide at the age of 15 because his parents didn't approve of his girlfriend, who was 17. It devastated the family and my friend was never quite the same again. Young kids commit suicide for many reasons, bereavement, as you stated, for reasons of anger or rejection by their friends, because they are being sexually abused or any number of reasons. Most young people don't understand the finality of death though. It's very sad to see young people end a life that had so much promise.
