Russian President Vladimir Putin inspected the country’s newly unveiled "Checkmate" warplane on Tuesday. The prototype of the Sukhoi fifth-generation stealth fighter was revealed at the MAKS-2021 International Aviation and Space Salon, Reuters reported. The show opened Tuesday in Zhukovsky, outside Moscow. Fifth-generation refers to the jet’s stealth characteristics, a capability to cruise at supersonic speed as well as artificial intelligence to assist the pilots, among other advanced features. "What we saw in Zhukovsky today demonstrates that the Russian aviation has a big potential for development and our aircraft making industries continue to create new competitive aircraft designs," Putin said in a speech at the show. The jet was designed to reduce service costs. "Our aim is to make the cost per flight hour as low as possible, to make it economical not only to buy but also to operate," Yury Slyusar, Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation head, said, according to Reuters. Another Russian piece of trash who’s performance will not come close to matching the Russian hype. Typical, just standard fare.

“Another Russian piece of trash who’s performance will not come close to matching the Russian hype. Typical, just standard fare.”

Everything you make, everything, is made up of tradeoffs and compromises. The plane needs to be a tradeoff of speed, endurance, operational altitude, stealth, carrying capacity...the list goes on. On top of that, the pilot has to be practiced...meaning lots of flight time and exercises. That costs money. Every decision you make costs money. And, if you build lots of planes you have to give up some tanks or ships. That’s just the way it works. Russia does not have the economy to mass produce any expensive weapons system unless it gives up something else. This weapon is likely to be optimized for Russian use and would require modifications if used by countries with different needs. This is one reason why American built hardware gets so heavily modified when sent to, say, Israel. Different country, different conditions, different needs.

The fact that they’ve invested in a stealthy robotic nuclear submarine with a bomb big enough to kill millions on the American coasts tells us what condition their economy is in. You don’t build civilization ending doomsday weapons if you can afford to build conventional weapons.

They’re looking for a partner to share the costs to build this thing. But there are very few countries that would invest what would be required when it won’t benefit their economies in any way. Practically any country you could name who might ordinarily be a partner is on the verge of collapse. And, if they did buy it, likely it would need more expensive modifications to suit the needs of the buyer. This is yet another Russian supper weapon that will not get built.

...”Oleg Panteleyev, head of the Russian Aviaport analytical agency, said the fighter jet could be a rival to the U.S. F-35 stealth fighter.”

from what I have been reading lately about the F-35, and its many many design flaws, the fact that it is not now nor will it probably ever live up to the expectations of it, and how billions of American tax dollars keep being poured into this flawed aircraft, I don’t see how the F-35 could be considered a rival to this new Russian fighter... jus’ sayin’ .....

Combat tends to prove whether it was a good idea or not.

Every problem faced by the F-35 are blown way out of proportion. The F-35 is the best fighter/attack aircraft flying today. All one needs do is read what the pilots say about it and their lives depend upon the F-35 being the best. Also, I’m all the Red Flag exercises the F-35 has flown several 1 vs 6 against F-15’s, F-16’s, F-18’s, Euro aircraft etc...etc .. and in those engagements the F-35 is allowed to use it’s full sensor, combat and stealth suite of capabilities, it has never been beaten. The 6 aggressors are always shot down before those pilots even know they’ve been targeted. The F-35 has many capabilities that no other combat aircraft in the world possesses. So much of what is written about the F-35 is disinformation, much of the time written by people who were part of the competing program which lost the competition and they’re still very upset by that, thus they hype way out of proportion the problems.

.......your post is certainly appreciated...however, this is just a snippet of an article appearing on a technical web site that I am sure has no affiliation with any of the F-35”s competing airframes...this article appeared just this past February...it’s another point of view

....The US Air Force Quietly Admits the F-35 Is a Failure
By Joel Hruska on February 25, 2021 at 8:38 am

The Air Force has announced a new study into the tactical aviation requirements of future aircraft, dubbed TacAir. In the process of doing so, Air Force chief of staff General Charles Q. Brown finally admitted what’s been obvious for years: The F-35 program has failed to achieve its goals. There is, at this point, little reason to believe it will ever succeed.

According to Brown, the USAF doesn’t just need the NGAD (Next Generation Air Dominance) fighter, a sixth-generation aircraft — it also needs a new, “5th-generation minus / 4.5th-generation aircraft.” Brown acknowledged some recent issues with the F-35 and suggested one potential solution was to fly the plane less often.

“I want to moderate how much we’re using those aircraft,” the general said. “You don’t drive your Ferrari to work every day, you only drive it on Sundays. This is our high end, we want to make sure we don’t use it all for the low-end fight… We don’t want to burn up capability now and wish we had it later.”

So the F-35 is an AWACS with missiles that can shoot down other planes because its radars can see a bit farther.

Great.

So is the ‘disappointment’ better or worse than the Russian fighter? And at what and by how much?

I saw that too. It’s called disinformation. I assume, from your name that you’re Russian. I would think Russians would be much more adept at recognizing disinformation.

Again, read articles and watch the videos of what its actual pilots say about it. The fact is though, that the US will not need as many F-35s as originally envisioned now that we have a 6th generation fighter aircraft almost ready to enter mass production.

It’s way better than that. It can target enemy aircraft without even radiating its own radar, and in certain modes even if it’s radiating enemy threat receivers cannot detect it’s radar emissions. As I’ve said previously, the F-35 possesses many capabilities that no other combat aircraft have ever possessed. If one analyzes the Red Flag exercises, opposing pilots constantly report that they do not know that they’ve detected, tracked, blocked up and fired upon untill the incoming missile goes active and they’re TWR’s detect the missile radar about 2 seconds before impact. There are many other advantages the F-35 offers it’s pilots against our enemies, even many that are not yet known to the public or our enemies.

Should read that they do not know that they’ve been detected etc...etc...

After all they cannot detect an F-35 that’s in full stealth mode.

F-35 is also invisible in certain situations.
