The U.S. Census Bureau could be forced to delay even further the release of redistricting data used for drawing congressional and legislative districts if it’s ordered to disclose more records in response to a lawsuit, the agency’s chief scientist said in court papers this week.
The redistricting data is set to be made public by the middle of next month. That could be postponed by as much as six additional months, however, if the statistical agency is ordered to release more records dealing with how it counted people living in what it refers to as “group quarters,” Census Bureau Chief Scientist John Abowd said in a declaration.
The bureau designates group quarters as dormitories, prisons, nursing homes and group homes.
The release of the redistricting data already was postponed by five months from its original March 31 deadline because of delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic, sending states scrambling to revise redistricting deadlines. Two states, Ohio and Alabama, sued the Census Bureau in an unsuccessful effort to get it to release the data before August.
“The effect on the schedule for delivering redistricting data would likely be substantial,” Abowd said of any potential order to disclose further group quarter records.
The Republican advocacy group, Fair Lines America Foundation, sued the Census Bureau in a public records lawsuit for information about how the census count was conducted in group quarters. The group says it’s concerned about the accuracy of that count and wants to make sure anomalies didn’t affect the state population figures used for divvying up congressional seats among the states.
The group facilities were among the most difficult places to count people during the 2020 census because the pandemic forced colleges to shutter dorms and send students home, and nursing homes and other facilities restricted access in an effort to protect vulnerable residents from the virus.
Abowd said that if the Census Bureau is required to release additional records as part of the Fair Lines lawsuit it will need as much as six months to recalibrate a new statistical tool meant to protect people’s privacy so that they can’t be identified through the data.
Delaying the release of the redistricting data past Aug. 16 could get the Census Bureau in trouble with a federal court in Ohio. As part of a settlement of the state of Ohio’s lawsuit, the Census Bureau promised to release the redistricting data no later than Aug. 16.
So in other words they used corrupt means to come up with the numbers and now if they are forced to produce the raw data, they’ll need 6 months to massge the data to hide fhe fraud.
Reminds me of Mann with the phony hockey stick data and his court case.
The fix is in...redistricting to play havoc...another nail in America’s coffin.
Everything the government does that affects government policies should be transparent.
Absolutely right, more gaming the system.
The way they divide things up should be, and IS, a known process within their working-group. Should be consistently applied to every geography, state, county, township, city, etc. regardless of location. They should just release their x-Step Plan for everyone to see and then allow everyone to analyze the results to make sure its correctly applied.
If its going to take 6 months more time to release that info then they are clearly doing something that is not fair to all parties involved, all citizens involved. In other words, clear indication of corrupt\shady behavior.
I am going to ‘guess’ that this is related to the 2020 election. Specifically, there are going to be more votes than people in certain counties. That sort of stuff sticks out like a sore thumb, and proves it was a “Big Steal” and not a “Big Lie”. Honestly, the data from Wisconsin and Arizona, that demonstrates 157K and 74K illegal ballots should be enough for any American to realize that the fraud was bigger than the margin of victory by a factor of at LEAST 5 times in both states. Imagine when the census shows wholesale voting irregularities.
This is a Ploy by the RATs to delay redistricting.
The dems through this lawsuit are attempting to subvert our democracy.
it’s also to keep CA and NY from losing seats in Congress.
CORRUPTION MUST BE HIDDEN
Delay data until when..?
After midterms?
Wait,I thought the dims were the
guardians of democracy?
...guardians of democracy?

Since *democracy* is mob rule, well, then: yes, they are.
NYS lost more than 1 House seat.
Add census figs to the list of things in dire need of an audit.
All part of the plan to shut down the 2022 elections.
“All part of the plan to shut down the 2022 elections.”
Nailed it!
my thought is if the stealing of elections on the local level has been rampant the last 20 years what do you think of the possibility that the same sort of fraud has been going on with the census and that the population shift around the united states is a lot bigger then what is being claimed. I think this might be the next big scandal to drop.
