One main reason our regime might be making “war talk,” like the US would defend Japan, Taiwan, etc, in event of a Chinese attack, is to encourage those countries to take belligerent action against “peaceful China.” Peaceful China can then defend itself and absorb what is left of the conquered territories into “Greater China.”
No need to fake a Polish attack on your border radio station if your catspaw can embolden an actual attack. Fortunately even Duterte is not crazy enough to believe the US.
