Two hundred members of the clergy and activists including Reverend Jesse Jackson were arrested on Monday during a protest at the U.S. Capitol.
The protest, organized by Poor People's Campaign, was part of a series of events to demand improved voting access, an end to the filibuster, a $15 hourly minimum wage and protection for immigrants.
Speakers at the rally - that began in Washington DC in front of Union Station, and ended on the Capitol - included Lyndon B. Johnson's daughter Luci Baines Johnson. Her father signed the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which organizers say 'has since been gutted.'
She told the rally: 'The vote gave Americans of all backgrounds the opportunity to address the inequities of our country.
'Those seeking to limit access to that vote will strangle liberty and justice for all.
'I cannot speak for our father now, as I dared not in his lifetime. But I know for sure that he would want us to be with you in the fight for social justice and voting rights.'
The group marched past the Capitol building and the U.S. Supreme Court, and were then denied entry to the Hart Senate Office Building.
Demanding to speak to the senior Republican in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, they also requested a meeting with Democratic senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona - both 'swing' senators who have spoken against ending the filibuster.
Jackson was arrested on July 26 along with Bishop Barber and 37 people others after refusing to leave the Sinema's Phoenix office. He was also arrested on June 23 at a previous Poor People's Campaign rally.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the New York congresswoman, and Cori Bush, representative for Missouri, greeted Jackson and showed their support.

Insurrection!
Take a wild guess they are already out on bail. (Unlike 1/6 protesters who still haven’t been charged.)
Jesse jackson is a Reverend? Where would one go if one wanted to hear him preach in person? Or two for that matter.
Grifter!
They in solitary in the d.c. jail?
Will Jackson be tried as an insurrectionist?
You would think the white supremacists would have learned their lesson in January, and yet here they are again! Outrageous!
I’ll bet they aren’t being tortured in solitary
No, he has pigment protection.
He’s got a face like an old boot, and he still sounds like a con man.
I expect he will be in indefinite solitary confinement soon. /sarc
These people are called activists, and let out on bail, likely will have any charges dismissed.
DJT supporters are arrested and labeled as terrorists, white supremacists or insurrectionists. Locked up and denied normal due process. Charged with felonies for misdemeanor trespassing.
That said, conservatives can learn a lot from his tactics. This was a peaceful demonstration and nobody there initiated a physical confrontation with the police or would even fight back if so provoked. This is a lot different from the Antifa/BLM riots of last summer. When they were arrested they went peacefully and gladly. (Gladly because they knew they had the photo op which would give them legitimacy with their base for future protests) It was a badge of honor for them to get arrested for what they consider to be a just cause. Of course a back up of lawyers and bail money were already in place.
Wish we would have done that and been as prepared on January 6th. We need to do this for future protests and without question there needs to be plenty more future protests.
Jackson and his Rainbow Coalition go no where without being payed large sums of money first.
Who payed him and for how much?
