The late Gov. Mario Cuomo (D-NY), father of the embattled Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), experienced a shocking defeat in his 1994 campaign for reelection in which he lost to now former Gov. George Pataki (R-NY), a lesser-known politician serving as a Republican state senator at the time.
Mario Cuomo was seeking a fourth term in office — just like his eldest son is now — when he decisively lost to Pataki by five points, marking the first Republican gubernatorial victory in the Empire State in two decades.

Nope. NY’ers are much too “wise” and virtuous to ever consider voting for a Republican. Even if they did, the Dems would cheat their butts off.
This isn’t going to end well.

It’s NY, with now a massive advantage for D voters. That’s not going to happen any more than it will for California.
There are no conservatives to be found in NY, those that haven’t fled to other states are hiding out in Upstate.

Never forget that Pataki put the text of the 90s “Assualt Weapons Ban” into the state penal code.
Absolutely true, Biggest wimp I have ever met. He was also GOPeahennish, and NOT conservative.
Pataki sucked but watching arrogant know-better-than-you-plebes Cuomo lose was beautiful.
And I’ll never forget the paragraph header in the New York Post the next day, above the paragraph describing Cuomo coming on stage in front of the huge crowd at his giant “victory” party to announce his defeat:

But this Coumo rigged the ballot box so that the dems can win forever.
Yes, a Republican won the governorship.
