I remember watching Dan Rather, GULP! as he had to announce that Republican George Pataki had won NY.

One of my all time favorite memories.

Pataki was a RINO who left the NY State Republican Party in shambles.  It also led to the election of "Client 9", Eliot Spitzer.

Pataki benefitted from the Republican wave of 1994, aided by Newt's Contract with America.  Same thing happened across the Hudson where Christine Todd Whitman - another RINO - defeated Jim Flim-Flam Florio (hat tip to Bob Grant).

Both Pataki & CTW were elected in '94 with a lot of promise.  How'd that turn out?
