I spent a little time at the embassy in Kabul when I was there from 2016-2018 as a civilian at the nearby, still remember that one new years party there for 2017.

We went into Afghanistan ostensibly to get Osama bin Laden. Once he was killed (allegedly) that mission was accomplished and we had no further reason to be there. All the rest has been ill advised nation building and mission creep. The current massacre is a tragedy but I don’t see where it would have been avoidable even with Trump in office. I do think he would have done it better, but in the end, the outcome would have been the same.

FTA: U.S. Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad traveled to Doha, Qatar on Tuesday, where the Taliban has a political office established, to "help formulate a joint international response to the rapidly deteriorating situation in Afghanistan," according to the State Department.

The trip was meant to urge the Taliban to put an end to their military offensive and look toward a political settlement, which the State Department said is "the only path to stability and development in Afghanistan."

Heard similar BS on FNC last night. Taliban's going for it all and this is so much wishful thinking crap. They'll take Kabul within a week.
