Billions Spent on Afghan Army Ultimately Benefited Taliban
US news ^ | Aug. 17, 2021 | Associated Press

Built and trained at a two-decade cost of $83 billion, Afghan security forces collapsed so quickly and completely — in some cases without a shot fired — that the ultimate beneficiary of the American investment turns out to be the Taliban.

What more can you say other than "I hope this is NOT a preview of how American forces respond to a crisis if the U.S. is attacked directly."

Of course it isn’t. Our troops will slow any attack by making the enemy jump through hoops to get pronouns correct. The enemy will be confused by our soldiers in drag, running away. The tactic will freeze the enemy in place.

“....Afghan security forces collapsed so quickly and completely...”

I understand the Afghan forces were being paid by the US until recently when the Afghan government took on that responsibility. They paid the soldiers very late and sometimes not al all. They were not receiving military supplies and morale among the troops was extremely low. They were also disgusted with the corruption in government. Many had left their posts and gone home.

It is said that at each target city, the Taliban commander called for a meeting with the Afghan military leader and offered a very large sum of money to walk away. And that is what they did.

Taliban is an extremely wealthy organization. They have a bigtime drug operation, ransoms, and donations from Islamic countries in support.

I’m certain that the Russian military will be there very soon in the form of military trainers, examining all of the U.S. equipment seized and eventually teaching the Taliban how to effectively use, the weapons and equipment, including aircraft against their enemies.

In Vietnam, the Russian Air Force provided military training, including military pilot training to the North Vietnam Army and Air Force.

The Shocking Story of the Vietnam War’s Mystery Fighter Ace

An amazing tale.
by Sebastien Roblin

On paper, the air war over Vietnam should have been a grossly one-sided contest. The U.S. Air Force and Navy, the strongest air arms in the world, opposed the jets of the Vietnam People’s Air Force, averaging 70 warplanes in the early years of the air war, and peaking at 200 near the end.

It was far from one-sided. The Vietnamese received extensive technical assistance, training and replacement aircraft from Russia and China. They also drew upon decades of experience fighting materially stronger opponents.

Vietnamese MiG fighters launched hit-and-run attacks on U.S. attack formations that flew on predictable schedules, inflicting heavy losses even on supersonic F-105 Thunderchief bombers. Ground-based radars guided Vietnamese pilots into perfect ambush positions.
