Reuters reported Tuesday that at least one global authority is already reconciling itself to Taliban rule in Afghanistan: “The chief of field operations of the U.N. children’s agency expressed cautious optimism about working with Taliban officials following their seizure of power in Afghanistan, citing their early expressions of support for girls’ education.” The source of this optimism may have been Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid sounding a superficially reassuring note: “We are going to allow women to work and study, women are going to be very active in society… we guarantee all their rights within the limits of Islam.”
That’s a relief, right? Everyone, including Afghan women, is expecting the Taliban to act swiftly and ruthlessly to oppress women, but if Zabiullah Mujahid is on the level about respecting women’s rights within the limits of Islam, how bad could it be? After all, everyone tells us that it’s a religion of peace and tolerance, right? Still, instead of just breathing a sigh of relief at Zabiullah’s words and assuming that all will now be well for women in Afghanistan, it would behoove Westerners to familiarize themselves with what those “limits of Islam” actually are — that is, what Islamic texts say about women, as opposed to what Western non-Muslim spokesmen wish they said.
The record of those Islamic texts, unfortunately, is not as benign as the UN children’s agency might assume. The Qur’an teaches that men are superior to women and should beat those from whom they “fear disobedience”: “Men have authority over women because Allah has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient.

Even though that doesn’t say much, don’t forget they’ll say just about anything until the last of the military is actually out of there.
After that, all bets are off. Trusting any peaceful words from their mouths now is like trusting palestinians.

When the Taliban were in power before, the women were bundled up in those blanket type outfits, and even their heads and faces were totally covered. There was a screen mesh piece of fabric in the face area so they could see. Those covers were much more restrictive than seen in other parts of the Arab/Muslim world.
These guys are going to set up their totalitarian Muslim theocracy again.

In other words they have no rights.
In Islam, women have the right to do as they are told. They have the same rights as cattle. Democrats say that’s OK because it’s how they choose to live. But in Islam they don’t have the right to choose.

It’s important to remember that there is Islam and there is Afghanistan when it comes to how women are treated/what their rights are or are not.
In some Muslim countries women can wear pretty much modern clothing, perhaps with something to cover the hair. In Afghanistan the preferred dress for outdoor wear is the burqa which resembles my Weber BBQ cover with a grillwork so the woman can see where she’s going.
In some Muslim countries, ‘honor killing’ women/girls who have brought ‘shame’ upon the family is sometimes punished. Traditionally in Afghanistan it is expected.
Saudi Arabia is very strict with women, but Saudi has been for the last lifetime, rich and much more sophisticated. Girls there can go to schools (separated from boys/men of course) and can work as well. Afghanistan is and always has been poor and very rough. Women there are expected to bear children, keep the house and do as they are told.
Only a fool would believe that things are going to be OK for them.
