Khalil Haqqani, one of America's most wanted terrorists, has led prayers for Taliban fighters in Kabul where he was greeted by adoring fans.

The Taliban fundraiser, who also has links to Al Qaeda, has a $5million bounty on his head but was cheered on the streets of Kabul before he led prayers at the city's biggest mosque.

Haqqani is now an integral part of the Taliban's moves to set up a government and he had armed escorts as he entered the religious building.

I watched a podcast yesterday that explained the origins of the Taliban. During the 80’s war many Afghans moved to the Pashtun area to escape the war and raise their families in peace. Their boys were in the madrassas and made money literally riding shotgun on the trucks of Pakistani merchants going to Iran to sell their wares. They brought law and order to a lawless area, so ppl were cool with this...but in the late 90s they started getting super radical and the Afghans weren’t thrilled about the sharia law elements.

So when the US came in, Afghans were relieved, but the reality is they’re still Afghans at their core, just like the Taliban. Maybe it’s the “better the devil you know” rationale. Basically the men are okay with the Taliban being their new protectors, but the women...not so much. This kinda explains the videos showing Afghans rejoicing and embracing the Taliban which seems so confusing to the west.

Either way, we pretty much wasted 20 years, trillions of dollars, and countless lives helping these middle eastern peasants, which is depressing and disgusting to me. I wish we realized sooner that not everyone wants our way of life, and it’s sheer folly and hubris to think they do.

I was listening to the American afghani that went back to see his sick father blah blah, and when asked how he acted around the taliban, was he afraid, he said he’d say, hi, how ya doing, glad you’re here, because to do otherwise would invite immediate attack.

That’s not to say all who were celebrating were faking. Some are probably delighted they can go back to child marriages and beating random women back into the kitchen
