After having read the press release, I'm going to have to turn it on today, disconnect it from the Interwebs to disable the "smart" features and turn it back off again.

We were going to replace out TVs with smart ones. We still don't have one. Now we won't.

But they can certainly leave a crap-ton over in the Stan for the Tali’s to freely use. Taxpayer dollars at work.
As I do not own a TV, smart or otherwise this doesn’t affect me. However the stated function does seem like it is a little draconian.

This might not be a bad system, to deal with thieves. I do, however, think it would be open to abuse. I could just see some government dirt bag, saying, brick em all. To me, that would be a typical government response, against political opponents, who don’t agree with their woke politics.

If it ever gets to that point, having a TV that can’t be disabled won’t help.

I guess this would be an issue if...our Samsung widescreen hadn’t developed a black spot the size of a basketball in the middle of the screen. Luckily, we had a warranty thru Sam’s Club...and it was replaced, free of charge, with an LG. Delivered directly to the house. Gotta say..the Samsung was a great TV, but the LG is better.
A properly applied dab of silicone caulk will cure this.
