Fighting Breaks Out Between Taliban, Panjshiri Resistance After Failed Talks

ISLAMABAD - Heavy fighting has started between Taliban fighters and anti-Taliban resistance forces based in the Panjshir valley after talks between the two sides failed to resolve their differences. A resistance spokesman claims a Taliban offensive was repulsed with the Taliban suffering heavy losses.

The resistance is led by Ahmad Masood, son of well-known anti-Taliban resistance leader from the 1990s, Ahmad Shah Masood. The elder Masood, who led the Northern Alliance against the Taliban, was killed by al-Qaida militants posing as journalists just before the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

After the fall of Kabul last month, members of the Afghan security forces from across the country who felt betrayed by the surrender of their military leaders made their way to Panjshir to join the resistance. Among them were some of the special forces famous for their battlefield victories against the Taliban over the years as well as the first vice president in the deposed regime, Amrullah Saleh.

Masood’s spokesman, Fahim Dashty, said the Taliban were running offensive operations in the northeast of the valley, in particular from a mountain pass named Khawak, as well as from the southwest from Parwan province.

He claimed the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRFA), as the Panjshir-based group calls itself, had repulsed them inflicting several hundred casualties.

“They have been defeated heavily. The figures that we already have, 150 of them have been killed, around 200 of them have been wounded, 35 of them have been detained, their four convoys have been destroyed as well as two heavy weaponry,” he claimed.

Taliban followers on social media shared video of the group traveling to Panjshir in a caravan of security vehicles with Taliban flags. They claimed the Taliban had taken over several areas previously controlled by the resistance forces.

What do they have to talk about?
“We want to be free”
“No, you must submit”
Ain’t no middle ground there.

Oh don’t worry. Joe’s not getting involved. He already refused to even send them guns & ammo to fight the Taliban.

Since wiping out Islam from the face of the Earth is not an option , containment and encouragement of rival factions fighting each other is the next best choice.

The future of taliban leadership and control will be ever changing. Different millitas will pop and further infighting will occur until there is a winner. This is just getting started.

The “Resistance” is actually the legitimate government of Afghanistan. It is headed by the elected Vice President.

I hope this resistance group stands tall and fights well. As you noted, the taliban leadership will be ever changing, making it difficult for them to rally around a single idea and form a united fighting force. In theory this resistance group is fighting as one, and stands a good chance of continuing to inflict major damage on the taliban. The only thing that will fail them is lack of supplies. I hope they are working on getting reloading equipment and making powder, cause it does not loom like America will be helping them with supplies. Well at least not for four years or so.

We need to see photos of dead and captured Taliban fighters. Good for morale for all as well as propaganda purposes.

The Resistance will need several things:

* anti-aircraft missiles from the simple Blowpipe and Strelas to Stingers. That is to keep the Taliban air force away (and destroy whatever they send over Resistance territory).

* Good communications equipment so that rapid response units can be sent where they are needed ASAP, as well as the means of transportation needed for those areas.

* IF the Resistance has aircraft, they need some Daisy Cutters and MOAB type bombs to destroy Taliban forces in the passes and the surrounding mountain tops. Napalm would be nice too. It covers a lot territory including the mouths of caves, convoys, and hillsides.

* Sniper rifles and scopes, night vision goggles, infra-red detection equipment, etc.

* A shit load of RPGs. A great weapon for that kind of territory and just the one to take out Taliban tanks, armored vehicles (MRAPS, M113? or M117s, Hummiers, trucks, etc).

* IEDs of all types. Let’s give the enemy back what they used against us.

There really is a nice for a full-stocked “Weapons R Us” store in the Panshjir Valley for our guys.

I expect Joe to back the Taliban, frankly. Using “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” logic.

We should have left them our equipment in mid August.

You are correct, but, all of that necessary equipment/arms is what Jiao Bidementia has supplied to the Taliban in extreme excess.
To the resistance, not a single bullet.

And the Biden handlers think they’re going to be able to hold diplomatic relations with these animals. It’s times like this I wish I could eat popcorn. Guess I’ll have to settle for Cheesy-Poofs.

We did.
My read of the situation is that once the Afghan government realized they wouldn’t have the cover of American combat forces they were essentially faced with fighting a civil war. Afghan vs Afgan. They didn’t want to fight it.
I am not saying we should have forced Americans to fight it for them. But a small force of maybe 2500 volunteers, specifically volunteered for the mission and trained for the job at hand and with the support of the brass and government to do their job, that would have been enough deterrent to prevent this entire fiasco.

Looks like the Americans will be sitting this one out. Maybe the Brits can do something. Even if it's just a couple of air drops. Not sure if they have the capability to do it though. It would be easier if they have stealth planes and then use parachutes to drop off supplies over Panshjir Valley to keep the "good fight" going.
