Ben Rhodes' Book Proves Obama Officials' Lies, and His Own, About Edward Snowden and Russia
glenn greenwald substack ^ | Aug 31 2021 | Glenn Greenwald

It is hard to overstate the sociopathy of US national security officials: their casual willingness to blatantly lie about the gravest matters is limitless.
Ever since Edward Snowden received asylum from Russia in 2013, Obama officials have repeatedly maligned his motives and patriotism by citing his "choice” to take up residence there. It has long been clear that this narrative was a lie: Snowden, after meeting with journalists in Hong Kong, intended only to transit through Moscow and then Havana on his way to seek asylum in Latin America. He was purposely prevented from leaving Russia — trapped in the Moscow airport — by the very Obama officials who then cynically weaponized his presence there to imply he was a civil-liberties hypocrite for “choosing” to live in such a repressive country or, even worse, a Kremlin agent or Russian spy.
But now we have absolute, definitive proof that Snowden never intended to stay in Russia but was deliberately prevented from leaving by the same Obama officials who exploited the predicament which they created. The proof was supplied unintentionally in the memoir of one of Obama's senior national security advisers, Ben Rhodes, entitled The World as It Is: A Memoir of the Obama White House. It is hard to overstate how dispositively Rhodes’ own book proves that Obama officials generally, and Rhodes specifically, lied blatantly and cavalierly to the public about what happened: a level of sustained and conscious lying that can be explained only by sociopathy.

I searched and didn't see this posted. It's important we know the depths to which Obama et al will sink and their press will cover for them.

Snowden was one of several heros who blew the whistle on NSA spying techniques.

There is no privacy anymore—now we know it for sure.

The Deep State will continue to spy on us (and deny it) forever...

Until a new generation of Americans decide they want their liberties back.

I pulled Alejandro Castro aside and said I had a message that came from President Obama. I reminded him that the Cubans had said they wanted to give Obama “political space” so that he could take steps to improve relations. “If you take in Snowden,” I said, “that political space will be gone.”

so, was it actually the 0bamy that ordered it?

or did you make your own play without official sanction...

And since "we" are at the top of the NHS security threat list, they have all the information necessary to take us out individually or as a group. Our social media likes, posts and replies will damn us. Our phone messages sent and received are states evidence and whatever Siri or Alexa or any other listening service hears will be the nail in our coffins.

This whole affair stunk. It is patently obvious that Snowden never planned to stay in Russia. Russia also didn't go out of their way to give him any immigration status, either.

It was all done according to standard Russian immigration law. Sure, they could have denied him asylum, but this would have been explicitly political. Anyone else in his situation (virtually stateless, stranded without a passport) would be granted asylum and eventually permanent residence under Russian law. Anyone claiming otherwise, or that the Russians went out of their way to accommodate him, is blowing smoke.

I've been through the Russian immigration system (albeit as a standard immigrant, not an asylee), so I know of what I speak.

What really makes me angry is how they protected slimy Vindman and their fake "whistleblower" but savage real patriots whistleblowers.
If there's not a reckoning in this life, there will be in the next.

There is a clip of Hillary. She is so smug. Was so good Trump beat her.

Trump should have pardoned Snowden. It seemed like Bill Barr kept Trump from doing so. Not sure how.

A former top Obama official is, and was, a pathological liar. So what’s new. I assume most of them are, like Obama.

There's an interview with Greenwald on Hill TV. He says Snowden was looking at Ecuador for asylum because of Assange.

I haven’t read down the comments yet. There are quite a few folks on here that think Snowden is a traitor of the highest order. I guess they don’t have an issue with what the government has been and continues to do to us.

All in the name of our security and “I have nothing to hide so why should I care”.

I’ll continue down and see how many think Snowden is the devil.

When you see statues of Snowden in the center of the large cities, you will know America is a nation of liberty again...

I read several reports that Mitch McConnel told Trump if he pardoned Snowden just before he left office that Mitch would support the impeachment (conviction) of Trump in the Senate.

“Trump should have pardoned Snowden.”

Absolutely.

But I read that Snowden hated Trump and didn’t want a pardon from him. Something about Trump not knowing how to love where money wasn’t involved. Very weird.

If you never heard Joe Rohan’s interview of Snowden on his podcast you should check it out. Very enlightening. Snowden is incredibly smart and very articulate. It’s eye opening.

This is all conveniently forgetting that Snowjob fled to China first with his Chinese handlers before they got what they needed and kicked him out as the unreliable and dangerous traitor he is.

Trump should have pardoned Snowden.

I don't know about Snowden, but Trump definitely should have pardoned Assange.
