One can also use the lasers that are built into something the exact size as your firearm’s chamber. Using that to sight in a rifle is a huge ammo saver. This only boresights your weapon. I use a laser that magnetically fits on the muzzle. It should put you on paper at 100 yards. If you know the range at which the bullet should first cross the line of sight of your optic or sights, boresight at that distance. Then it's time to shoot and sight in.

Also, a cheap way to get on target quickly is take a large rectangular piece of Christmas wrapping paper with a plain/white backside. Hang it at 50 yards. Put a target on the center of the paper. You will quickly find where uou are hitting and then adjust from there. 5 or 6 rounds and you should be on the bull. For .223/.556 dead center bull should be about 1.25 to 1.5 inches high at 100yds. Then fine tune on target at 100yds. Preferably 1.5 inch high at 100yds. to be on at 200yds.
