Donald Trump is the person who chose not to fight, and to allow his enemies to prevail. When he was unable to negotiate a favorable deal he refused to actually fight and his enemies not only won but are all still alive and breathing.

I understand your point.
Probably Donald didn’t fight as hard as he could have; perhaps it was Melania or his children didn’t want him to be at the end of a sniper’s bullet.
I also think that he had very poor legal representation. I think that a lot of attorneys thought, “This guy is toxic. If I take on his case, my partners would oust me in one way or another and all my neighbors would hate me. Probably even my own Mother.”
That is what makes this entire election one of the worst fiascos we have ever experienced.
