Seven vans were impounded in Manhattan this week after investigators discovered they were being used as illegal Airbnb rentals, according to the NYC Sheriff’s Office.

Part of the investigation includes a YouTube video reviewing an overnight stay in one of the vans.
An Airbnb spokesperson told PIX11 in an emailed statement the vans are no longer active listings on the platform.

Vans as airBnB. I admire the chutzpah and initiative.
That’s where when you wake up in the morning...
you’re up on blocks and have no radio.
If I were 22, desperate to see a show, and had like $48 dollars to my name that week, I’d totally go in with three of my buddies and rent a van for an airBNB crashpad. I don’t know how sound of a business plan it is, but I applaud whoever came up with the idea.
It’s not a terrible idea. Vans though probably not a great thought. But not far off since Starbucks offers free bathrooms. Instead of vans, get a fleet of old RVs and camper trailers and rent them out by the day.
Out in Los Angeles, they have had big problems with RVs parking in neighborhoods by the beach. Dry camp (not hooked up to electric grid or plumbing) and then dump the sewage into the city streets. Ever couple of days just drive it away somewhere, fill the water tanks and gas generator, then drive it back and repeat. Park it near a Starbucks get free wifi. Or 5G network to a mobile phone, free to some low income users paid for by the special tax everyone else pays for their service.
This isn’t really that crazy. California bought thousands of trailers with the idea they would let homeless use them. AFAIK, they never used them for that purpose. NIMBY. Trailer homes, livable. But nobody wants them parked in the streets near their house.
Down by the river?
I shot my baby!
I suppose that means that I'll have to be removing my packing crate from the listings soon...
Regards,
It’s very clever.
“What kind of gas mileage does your Airbnb get?”
Just one more thing we must get approval from “the government” for. Where has freedom gone?
