That has not been my experience. In fact, plenty of truly disabled people do not get the help they need. Now, are there lying bums who just want a check who get it? Hell yes there are. And plenty of them too - people who have ruined their health with sodomy, booze and drugs. But the Disability System is what keeps many sick people from living in a tent on the street. And take the money - who really gets most of it for the legitimately sick? Landlords, grocery stores, utility companies, gas stations, auto insurance companies. Most recipients are not getting rich on SSDI. That has been my experience.

SSDI is one of the most misused government programs. I know people who avoided treatment for their “disability” in order to get the money. I know people who haven’t worked a paying job in decades. Note I said paying. One I know works for free at the pool so she can have access to it. So she can work a job but doesn’t want to lose her free government check. I have a family member who gets it and works a job for cash. I really don’t know anyone on SSDI that is truly disabled. I know people on private insurance disability that cannot work and they got their money immediately.

Around here, they call it “hunting and fishing money”. My sister will still have to work when The Disability comes through because it is not enough. Luckily, Social Security allows people who are too disabled to work to have a job. Go figure.
