Any military person can be “confined” for breaking military protocol if it is potentially a court martial offense. Been that way since the beginning of our country.

It is easiest enough to do a web search on number of guns in Australia. While number of households with guns has fallen, the number of guns per gun owner has almost doubled. If you want a gun in Australia it is easiest enough to get one, just has to be registered which I agree is not ideal.
