Anthony Fauci, the government's top infectious diseases expert, on Friday called new trial results for a Merck pill to treat COVID-19 "impressive," as experts say the treatment could be a key tool in the pandemic fight.
"The data are impressive," Fauci said at a White House press briefing, noting he was briefed by the company on its results on Thursday night.
Merck said in a press release that the trial found that its drug cut the risk of hospitalization or death by 50 percent.
Eight trial participants who received a placebo died, compared to zero who received the drug from Merck and its partner Ridgeback Biotherapeutics, called molnupiravir.
An easy to use and produce pill to treat COVID-19 has long been a goal, given that current treatments like monoclonal antibodies require infusions and are more cumbersome.
Fauci declined to weigh in on when exactly the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) could authorize the drug, saying "we always hesitate to make any timelines," but said the FDA would move "as quickly as they possibly can" to examine the data.

I’m wondering (1) how much the Merck pills would cost, and (2) whether Merck is going to try to co-opt or buy up all the Ivermectin in the country, so that they’re the only ones with a supply of it.
Oh, and fornicate Fauci seven ways from Sunday.
Who gives a blank what Fauci has to say about anything.
Fauci said Remsdesivir would become standard of care when it was approved.
Maybe it has but I’ve seen nothing where it’s said to have saved lives or made an impact.

I was told by a doctor at my gym, a liberal who fully concedes this is all BS, covid is being politicized, it started in a chinese lab and fauci is a fascist, the reason Merk was badmouthing ivermectin was they were developing a new drug which costs $300 per pill, versus the $2 per pill for ivermectin.
BTW- this conversation took place three months ago.
If they would allow Ivermectin the virus would be over in 60 days.
I wonder how Fauci is handling college football season? Stadiums all over the nation are full of screaming, un-masked spectators. They are touching and hugging. They are breathing on one another, sharing hot dogs and beer. Everything Fauci forbids is going on.
Will he and Biden cancel football season - they do love mandates, you know.

Good, now that there is a trial pill you can conduct a trial with Merck, Invermectin, and HCQ. See if there is a comparison.
I am a full believer in Doxycycline.
I suffered for seven years from what i believed to be the residual effects of lyme disease. The symptoms i had ran parallel to the worst of covid symptoms and would show up out of nowhere. Regular doctors told me they couldn’t find anything and it had nothing to due with lyme after tests.
I saw a lymes disease specialist about 3 months ago- a doctor the NY medical board has tried to smear time and time again. He gave me a months worth of Doxycycline (after a blood test which showed i was positive for Babesia- a parasite caused by the tick).
Three days into the months supply all the symptoms went away.
A man who was being interviewed on Glenn Beck’s radio show by Beck on Friday....I forget his name... said Merck’s drug would cost $70.00 per pill.
This same guy said that with a coupon from Walgreen, he could buy Ivermectin on GoodRx.com for 15 cents a pill.
In early spring of 2020, a man in Washington State credited Remsdesivir with saving his life.
Remsdesivir was originally created as a possible cure for Ebola, but it didn’t work.
Recently, there have been reports claiming Remsdesivir causes kidney failure.
