They are running out of natural gas and are considering shutting down factories so that people can heat their homes this winter. Of course, doing that creates shortages of what the factories make. Maybe the geniuses should encourage natural gas production.

Energy usage and economic production have a nearly 1:1 ratio. Energy efficiency and technology play a part on changing that ratio, but only slowly, and only in the long run. You simply can’t produce something without expending energy.

Money is merely a representation of the productive capacity of a country/system, etc...

So money is a claim on present energy usage.

Debt is therefore a demand/lien on future energy usage

Western economies have tripled their debt in the last 15-20 years.

Will they triple energy production as well?

NO? What happens then? Debt will be defaulted on - either outright, or by massive inflation.

“Install more windmills and solar panels”.

Sorry, but it takes too much energy to manufacture those things.

The eurpeans have plenty of natural gas locked up in fracked rock similar to the rock in Pennsylvania.

But their environmentalists won’t allow them to exploit this natural gas.

There are too many interruptible fuel supply contracts in their energy portfolios.

See, being reliant in Putin for your energy needs is a stupid idea. The US is also about to learn this in a hard way.
