The Department of Energy on Friday announced a target of the equivalent of five million homes powered by community solar energy by 2025.
The target would save $1 billion and contribute to administration goals of fully renewable electricity by 2035, according to the department.
“Community solar is one of the most powerful tools we have to provide affordable solar energy to all American households, regardless of whether they own a home or have a roof suitable for solar panels,” Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm said in a statement. “Achieving these ambitious targets will lead to meaningful energy cost savings, create jobs in these communities, and make our clean energy transition more equitable.”

Solar and wind is sooo risky. Not to mention how these ruin completely the landscape.
I know a fellow who has joined with a solar company to use his farmland for a solar farm. The neighbors his land butts up against are having fits as the area is well known for it’s scenic views. In some cases they will be looking out their back door at solar panels as well as their front views.
I was approached by a solar panel salesman. My understanding of the arrangement they were offering was that my panels would send electricity to the grid, and my home would receive electricity from the grid. If the grid were to go down, I would get nothing, regardless of how much power my panels were churning out. Didn’t seem like a smart deal to me.
