Hawthorne?
Sound more like Lawndale (It’s right next door to Hawthorne, but really ghetto.)
Yeah, I was thinking that far down Hawthorne was getting into Lawndale. I remember when it had the fake plastic lawn on the median. They got rid of it in 1988:

Lawndale won a Monsanto plaque for the “World’s First Astro Grass Traffic Median Installation,” but the fake grass has proven to be more of a blight than a blessing.
