In a highly contentious conference battle over changes in the DSM definitions, the decision was made to drop homosexual syndromes from the long standing mental illness definition.
In 1973, at the American Psychiatric Association (APA) convention 5,854 psychiatrists voted to remove homosexuality from the DSM, and 3,810 to retain it. The APA then compromised, removing homosexuality from the DSM but replacing it, in effect, with "sexual orientation disturbance" for people "in conflict with" their sexual orientation. First off, the NBC "News" title is fake: "Trump’s presidency linked to LGBTQ mental distress, studies find"
The article and studies explicitly disclaimed any causal effect Trump had on their mental health, just that their distress increased during Trump's presidency.
Could it be - that this might seem completely counter-intuitive - that the fallout from redefining marriage in 2015 might be a cause of their distress? After all, they now have an implied responsibility to enter into this with their partners if they want to receive the "gazzillion benefits" which accrue to married partners, what they said they fought so hard for during the marriage redefinition court battles. Could it be that they now have cold feet in a culture in which rampant promiscuity is the standing rule, and in which they would now be expected to at least present the appearance of a normal "married couple?"

Note: In the Bible God did not say oh those silly and superstitious Egyptian magicians and sorcerers. He had to have Moses defeat them (staff, snakes and so on) publicly. And there are several biblical demands to not see out necromancers, soothsayers, astrologers, entrail readers and so on for their counsel about the future or to cast pagan spells. We are to shun them.
