U.S. consumers will spend more to heat their homes this winter than last year due to surging energy prices, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) projected in its winter outlook on Wednesday.
Energy prices have risen sharply worldwide, causing power crunches in large economies like China and India. The United States has, so far, not seen that same effect, even though the prices of fuels ranging from natural gas to heating oil and propane have risen notably and will hit household finances as the weather turns colder.
Propane Oil to Rise the Most: 54%
"The main reason wholesale prices of natural gas, crude oil, and petroleum products have risen is that fuel demand has increased from recent lows faster than supply, in part, because of economic recovery after the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic," the EIA said.
Nearly half of U.S. households rely on natural gas for heat, with the average cost for those homes expected to rise by 30% from the year-earlier period, the statistical arm of the U.S. Department of Energy said.
Average winter costs for homes with natural gas last winter were $572 per household, far cheaper than other major sources of heat.
The most dramatic increases will be seen for households that rely on propane or heating oil, the EIA said, because changes in those prices at the wholesale level pass through much more quickly to consumers. Those costs are expected to rise by 54% and 43%, respectively, the EIA said, from last winter.
As of the 2019-2020 heating season, however, less than 12 million American households relied on those fuels - about 9% of total U.S. households, according to the EIA.

Consumer Prices Rise More Than Expected As Energy Costs Surge
Vote Dem idiots.
If this FJB crap continues I’ll be buying an outdoor wood furnace and chop down my own fuel.
Thanks Brandon.
The reality is that we have far more coal and oil and gas than ever. Its just sitting there not being piped. Its there in large piles or oceans underground. But Biden is making sure that it does not move.
We are using less energy. We are getting energy from ever more efficient resources. We are greener. But that is not good enough for the climate change people. They want the prices to go through the roof. They don’t care that it will cause a world recession. They don’t care that people will be harmed. And that the people harmed the most will be those who are poorer. They really don’t care about people. The climate folks are the ones who brought us the virus too. They are the EcoHealth Alliance and the other population control groups. This group is evil. And they supported the virus creation in Wuhan.
Buy yourself some long-johns if you can find them.
People-sicles certainly will.
Apparently 80 Million Voters are all for it...

I have electric heat suckers!
(yeah, I’m not that stupid)
Temporary inflation.
Flesh wound.
Locked in a two year rate at 55 cents a therm 3 weeks ago. I think that will look cheap come January.
Meant to mention for natural gas.
$5.68 today compared to $2.86 a year ago is a rise of $2.82 --- a rise of 98.6%.
Let's go Brandon!!
Yeah, sure.
Windmills and solar panels provide 6-7% of the Energy Grid. Total BS. Better buy some more wool blankets, if you can get any.
Get a wood stove and couple cords of seasoned wood, before they outlaw them, as CA has done.
Electricity is my sole source of heat, and I live in Minnesota in a fairly poorly insulated house. Cost per BTU is higher, but I use less of them this way. I got rid of my propane tank about ten years ago.
I think it depends upon where you are. I filled up a 250 gallon propane tank last week for 2.84/gallon. (You can only fill them to 80 percent to allow for temperature expansion.) The price of propane here usually runs pretty close to the price of gasoline.
See my tagline :-)
I stopped using baseboard electric heat and got three of the oil filled radiator heaters......much cheaper and steady heat. Set and forget about it. $150. for all three...a wonderful source of heat. Now neighbors are also using them.
