The state of California is jumping into an historic lawsuit against companies who make kits to assemble so-called “ghost guns.”
The suit, originally filed in August by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office along with the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence and the law firm Keker, Van Nest & Peters, accuses three companies of selling illegal prepackaged kits, allowing people to make a firearm at home. These ghost guns don’t have serial numbers, making them untraceable.
In joining the lawsuit against Blackhawk Manufacturing Group, Inc., GS Performance, LLC, and MDX Corporation, California Attorney General Rob Bonta said the defendants are violating the federal Gun Control Act and two state gun control measures by not meeting basic safety requirements.
“Fifteen minutes — that’s the little time it takes to put it together. We’re not talking about a kit of Legos, we’re not talking about Blue Apron or Martha Stewart’s meal kit, and we’re not talking about a COVID test. We’re talking about a ghost gun kit,” said Bonta.
“We know that in this day and age that there is nothing that presents a greater threat to public safety than guns — specifically unserialized ghost guns that are being dumped into our communities and into the hands of people who are prohibited from possessing firearms,” said Boudin. “People who intend to use those firearms to commit crimes. Whose very possession of those firearms is a crime.”

Are the guns any good?
How many crimes have been committed with “un-serialized guns”. If the police find out who is selling them, it is already illegal, and they are in serious trouble. Otherwise this is just political BS meant for politicians to posture and say LOOK AT ME.
According to the article, it only takes 15 minutes to put together. Like a set of legoes.

(And unconfiscatable, which is why they are a target for the Bolsheviks.)
I doubt that they are used in very many crimes. The kits are more expensive than the serialized versions, so I can't imagine any gang-banger would buy one.
I also can't imagine that I'd be as good with fit as a gunsmith who does this for a living.
However, if they were legal in my state, I would buy one just for ****s and giggles.
Hmmm. Maybe I should get one.
BTT
So, these kits are gun parts from known major brands, and a mostly-finished lower that the buyer gets instructions (and usually some jigs) how to finish out. A factory-made lower is — all by its lonesome — is deemed a “firearm” by BATFE. BUT, if it’s not finished; it’s not a lower, it’s a block of metal (or polymer).
So, you buy a Glock 19 kit, for example, and finish the machining yourself — VIOLA! — ya gotcherself a non-serialized, unregisterable Glock 19.
So, that’s where the leftards in CA are focusing their campaign of fear.
But, what else is new, right? The Governor just said the other day that Californians have to throw away their gas-powered tools by 2023. Made himself an f’n HERO to arborists and landscapers Statewide.
>There are approximately 4.2 million gun owners and 20 million firearms (9 million handguns) in California. About 1 in 4 California adults lives in a gun-owning home.

Good luck enforcing this, the people of California will laugh and ignore this
It’s so stupid.
The prices are more expensive than a typical handgun.
600-800 for Glock 19. That puts it in the realm of Springfield XD
1,200-1,400 for 1911 which makes them priced at Kimber’s...
Still fun to build...If I every thought about building one and putting all those tiny pieces to together, then not liking and swapping out certain parts for ones I thought I’d like.
Ultimately your base cost goes up if you prefer certain qualities and features.
Like dropping in Gisselle for an AR.
Before you know it, your base 800 bucks ballooned to 3K....
Oh well. At least I don’t build cars or motorcycles....
AG Rob Bonta is a woman. Please use her proper pronouns.
Is there something in the Second Amendment that specifies Arms have Serialized Numbers stamped on them?
I must have missed it.
What’s maddening is that these people don’t even need to win their case to achieve their end of destroying these companies, and the market in “80%” receivers.
They just have to bleed these small companies dry through legal fees as they try to defend themselves.
Ban young male POCs and crime will drop dramatically
Silly. wink, wink. /s.
You need to removed the fuel that runs the gun violence: The illegal drugs.
"It's just that they know so much that isn't so..."
The greatest threats to public safety, BY FAR, are all the illegal immigrants, from law-of-the-jungle regions, who have been crammed into our country by lawless, marxist sonsabitches.
