When my parents started getting forgetful, I capped my gas and got an electric stove. Its not as good, but have greater peace of mind. I’m a lousy cook anyway.
Once my four year old turned on all the burners on our old no-pilot gas stove. I only discovered it because I was getting so-o-o-o tired and really needed to stay awake to study for a final exam so I got up and went into the kitchen to put some coffee on. Seeing the turned knobs I switched them all back and grabbed the nearest of my two now sleeping little ones and put her out on the lawn, ran back in and repeated with the other then the dog. Everyone woke up after a few minutes.
