My wife and I have been prepping for the last year.
Yesterday, she went to stock up on canned goods and large quantity dry stuffs.
She said she got several looks as she was pushing her cart to the checkout.
The way I figure it, we only need about two months of supplies if SHTF. There won’t be many people able to go that long, so supplies should be easier to come by at that point.
My neighbors and us have a mutual plan. He has honeybees and hives and fruit trees and I have dairy goats and horses. That and a nice stock of heirloom seeds...
I’ve said too much...
Saw a POC stocking up like that the other day, only he was building up inventory of bacon and beer.
If you grew it and canned it, dried it, or froze it, its not hoarding and you and you neighbor are just swapping!
I’ve got meat goats. You gonna eat those horses?
My neighbors have the skills to garden and such they just don’t anymore. They have the setup to do it, including coops/barns. But I put aside extra heirloom seeds I save, and I keep a rooster and billy goat so I can provide them with animals to raise and a means to garden if things get really bad.
Reminds me of a story a friend told me one. He owned a gun shop in New Mexico years back and the local guys tended to hang out and shoot the breeze there. One day they were talking about their prepping and each laid out all the stuff they'd accumulated. Then they asked my buddy what he'd done. "Nothing". They couldn't believe it. So he explained. "Well, I know what all you guys have and I have all the guns so I'll just get what I need from you."
They were not amused.
Nazi soldiers ate a lot of horse meat at Stalingrad after their supply chain crumbled.
