Philadelphia to bar cops from pulling drivers over for minor traffic violations (“driving while black” legislation)

Philadelphia is poised to bar its cops from pulling drivers over for minor traffic violations — like broken tail lights and bumper issues — which will make it the first major US city to enact so-called “driving while black” legislation. The Driving Equality Bill, passed earlier this month by the City Council, could be signed as early as this week by Mayor Jim Kenney, according to CNN. The package of bills would classify vehicle registration infractions, broken brake lights and flouting inspection evidence regulations as “secondary” violations, meaning police would be prohibited from pulling motorists over if those traffic infractions are observed.

Expecting black people to follow the law is racist.

Which I guess would mean nobody will get their cars registered anymore, except normal law abiding citizens.

Just like dumbing down tests and entrance exams.

The race to the bottom continues.

Well, I remember a Dukes of Hazzard episode in which Roscoe kicked in one of the General Lee’s taillights and then tried to cite Bo and Luke for driving with a broken taillight. I wonder if this is to right an injustice such as this.

Twenty years ago I was teaching an Ethics philosophy course at the local comcol, and my assignment was for the students to respond to a newspaper article about how the police in an Ohio city had decided they would not pull over any black drivers for traffic violations, because they were tired of being accused of racism. The assignments were turned in, the class session ended, and I went back to my faculty office, which was completely empty of people, something very unusual. I wandered around the offices, and finally found everyone huddled together in the faculty lounge, watching the television as the second WTC tower fell. It was 9/11.

Twenty years later, and nothing has changed, except for the continuing creep of leftist stupidity. Maybe the Philly police will refuse the order the way people are refusing the vaxx, but I doubt it.

...classify vehicle registration infractions Does that mean I no longer have to register my car every year?

Or does this only apply to black bodies?

So, if you gots to do a drive-by across town, just be sure to obey the traffic rules and you’ll be okay.

All traffic violations by black people will now become “minor”. More tickets for white people to keep the revenues up will be required.

So allowing illegal and unsafe cars on the road is a good thing? Why is it that all these special rules put normal people in harms way, like letting criminals out w/o bail or not even prosecuting them. Or letting illegals run around free, many with a history of violence and law breaking?

"Or does this only apply to black bodies?"

A simple solution: Identify as black.

With many autos having dark tinted windows, how do cops know drivers are black until they pull them over?

More handcuffing or handicapping police.

I thought minor traffic violations were typically used just so a LEO could "make contact" with you. I've been pulled over to have my state inspection sticker checked because the LEO couldn't see it. (ok, it was covered in mud, I had been off-roading) I also got pulled over and warned about not signalling my turn correctly. IIRC in that state it was something like within 100 ft if below 35 mph, and within 300 ft if above 35 mph. I literally got warned to signal sooner.

Both of these were just excuses. A bored local LEO just wanting to make contact, have an excuse to see if there were any wants/warrants out, make sure I had license, registration, and proof of insurance. Cynically you could say they are just trolling for excuses to write tickets and generate revenue - but in my experience I got no tickets, just verbal warnings. As I understand it, it is a tool/technique used that yes - occasionally nets the LEO someone with outstanding warrants, or a stolen car, or someone driving under the influence, etc.

Now they are going to take that away. Then they are going to wonder why arrests drop off, and why there are more serious accidents. Sure, maybe only slightly, but I guarantee you some criminals will slip through the cracks because they were not picked up at a "routine traffic stop." Vehicles will be operated in less safe conditions or states of repair if people don't have to worry about getting stopped. It is human nature.

I mean do they really need to pull people over for expired tags? Just send a ticket like they do with toll violations. It’s crazy that they end up killing someone over an expired tag.

It is well documented that cops in predominantly Democrat run jurisdictions will use the pretext of a minor violation (that is often imaginary) to justify stopping drivers in order to find reasons to justify searches or arrests.

Case in point is the black Florida woman who was stopped BECAUSE THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG and the donut munchers actually tried to use that as probable cause.

It didn’t end well for them.

The Philadelphia City Council has gone totally woketard racist. Next the ciy council will set different speed limits by race, none for Blacks and lower speed limits for Whites and everyone else.

Philadelphia has now identified itself as an unAmerican city.
