Biden Admin Amassing Millions of Records on US Gun Owners Amid New Crackdown on Firearms
Free Beacon ^ | 11/6/2021 | Adam Kredo

The Biden administration in just the past year alone stockpiled the records of more than 54 million U.S. gun owners and is poised to drastically alter gun regulations to ensure that information on Americans who own firearms ultimately ends up in the federal government's hands, according to internal Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) documents obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

The ATF in fiscal year 2021 processed 54.7 million out-of-business records, according to an internal ATF document obtained by the Gun Owners of America, a firearms advocacy group, and provided exclusively to the Free Beacon. When a licensed gun store goes out of business, its private records detailing gun transactions become ATF property and are stored at a federal site in West Virginia. This practice allows the federal government to stockpile scores of gun records and has drawn outrage from gun advocacy groups that say the government is using this information to create a national database of gun owners—which has long been prohibited under U.S. law.

The ATF obtained 53.8 million paper records and another 887,000 electronic records, according to the internal document that outlines ATF actions in fiscal year 2021. Gun activists described this figure as unusually high and said it contributes to fears that the Biden administration is trying to keep track of all Americans who own firearms, in violation of federal statutes. The procurement of these records by the ATF comes as the Biden administration moves to alter current laws to ensure that gun records are stored in perpetuity. Currently, gun shops can destroy their records every 20 years, thereby preventing the ATF from accessing the information in the future.

Isn’t it obvious that they are not following the laws of this country which means they are a rouge regime that illegally altered a presidential election and the enemy of the people.

With a little over 25% of We the People approving of this rogue regime, one would think we would have the ability to stop this train.

71% of us disapprove of nearly everything they are doing and yet, none of it matters to any congressional critter.

They know it is all illegal as Pelosi works to put forth the Biden Agenda they have blurred the line between the legislative branch and the executive branch into usurpation not by an individual President, but by an entire party/regime. This is where our government structure has failed. In this situation we no longer have checks/balances. We only have The Agenda.

We have lost our Republic.

So. They should make their move. They know how many people have guns and ammo. Data collection warriors.

A good old fashioned Lexington-Concord style gun grab is what this country needs.

If you read the article, what they are collecting is the “bound books” from FFLs that have gone out of business. They’ve been doing this since the 1968 GCA created the FFL system in the first place.

They store the books’ pages as images, and then destroy the books. “Bound Books” books are handwritten, so they can’t be searched digitally. (My regular FFL’s handwriting is, btw, horrible.)

This wouldn’t be much of a concern, but with the advent of AI systems that can recognize and digitize handwriting, maybe it should be.

This practice allows the federal government to stockpile scores of gun records ...

"facilitiates"

The notion of "allowed" or "allows" is nonsense when it comes to government. Regulations might, on paper, forbid government retention of these records, but the government will retain them anyway. There is no remedy or penalty for violating the statutory prohibition on records retention.

Similar with snooping. The law is not an effective limiter. It is riddled with loopholes, carveouts, illusory penalties, etc. The government snooping is limited ONLY by technology.

Plenty of supposedly "government limiting" and "government regulating" laws on the books. They are a farce. It's the liars word, "trust us, we are regulating ourselves."

Yeah, not sure how this is any different, unless before this they were not checking and getting the old books from FFL holders? It says that supposedly they are now processing more of the bound books,

“Gun activists described this figure as unusually high...”

But the article doesn’t specifically say why it is higher. Using tech to scan them more efficiently? The AI speculation is interesting, using it to treat handwriting like text. I thought they couldn’t digitize it by law, but maybe they have something that reads handwriting like digitized text?

“Free market private sales.”

Yep! Most firearms change hands many times and through several generations. I doubt that 10 percent of my guns could be traced back through all ownership from it’s original purchase. The ones that can I originally purchased. With the exception of one I have on order (New SA-35 Springfield) the guns I like are no longer produced and can only be found through private sales. It’s not looked I’m trying to hide the sale it just is what it is.
