That was actually true. Robert Moses — the iconic figure who led the planning efforts for the NYC metro area through much of the 20th century — was an unapologetic racist who used his influence to keep minorities penned up in their urban dumps. One notable measure he took was to have the parkways being built across Long Island constructed with low arch overpasses so buses could not fit underneath them. This was specifically done to ensure that only wealthy suburbanites with cars could access the state parks along the south shore of Long Island.

Well, if that’s actually true, he should have said how Robert Moses instituted such a policy. In hearing him talk about that, it left me wondering, let’s have some specifics of who instituted such policies. And I thought that because it sounds so absurd as to be something that someone exaggerated about.
