You nailed it. Top down leadership is everything. When I was on active duty almost all the “brass” were WW 2 vets and we revered these men. They were virtually our fathers and we acted and served accordingly. And they were NOT “woke”...it was not even a thing!!

I remember some enlisted guys, who were Korean War veterans, but not World War 2. Some pilots were still there, left over, from the big unpleasantry, like Robin Olds, and Chappie James, and a few others, including Major General Paul W Stoney, commander of Air Force Communications Command. His thing, was to say, Hi, I’m Stoney. He did exactly that to me, when I was busy controlling airplanes one day. I didn’t know he was coming, but he told me my airplanes came first, he would wait on me. He didn’t have to wait long, but we respected him greatly.
BTW, my son did NOT go to the USAF Academy, and I am glad now, that he didn’t. 😁👍
